Does the new version of Spybot make enteries and create back ups of the Hosts File in winXP ??

Yes and there are now two places that you can add HOSTS file entries from.
As in the previous versions you can go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced Mode > Tools > Hosts file > and then click on the "Add Spybot S&D hosts list" button.
In addition if you go into Spybot > Immunize > under the Windows section the "Global (Hosts)" item will add HOSTS file entries.
