I play World of Warcraft, and my acct has been compromised. I have done a virus scan with my regular AVG, but it found nothing last night, now while waiting for Kaspersky to finish, I got a pop-up saying found Dropper.Small, but healing failed. I have moved the file to vault. I have been having problems for the past week or two though were everytime I try to view things on MySpace acct, it will close my IE and open up some other page requesting I install some AV software. I have been clicking the X each time, making sure not to click on any links or anything... but accidents happen, so I might have clicked something without my knowledge.

Just an FYI, I have also downloaded and installed TrojanHunter 5 and performed a scan after these scans were completed, but was not done at time of posting.

Here are the logs requested by the "BEFORE you POST" post.

Lets try running combofix.exe
Download it from one of the links below:
Note:
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/combofix.exe
http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/combofix.exe

Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Thank you for the reply. Just to advise, since my post, I have also downloaded trojanhunter and uninstalled AVG and downloaded Avast as per a friend's suggestion, and those got rid of a few things, but I know I am still infected, so haven't been doing much on the computer else than waiting for a reply from someone just to be safe. FYI, I am also on a network with my son's computer and was told that even if my computer gets rid of everything, I might have compromised my son's computer and need to fix his too, could you please confirm?

This is the log from combofix.

Sorry, forgot to describe how my computer is acting... it seems to be acting same as usual... I mean I can now surf myspace without getting one of those pop-up redirecting me to some kind of "anti-virus site". I haven't really tried to do anything else than surf the web right now as I don't want to access anything requiring a password (WoW, bank acct, etc...) else than myspace, facebook and trivial sites of the sort until I am sure I don't have a keylogger that will compromise anything.

You will need to remove adaware for now so that some changes can be made.

Disable SpywareGuard for now:
Right click the running icon of Spywareguard, it will open the program.
Then go to Menu, file, exit.
Then confirm the program is closed.

And We will need to disable TeaTimer
1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
5) Restart your computer.

-----------------------------------------

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following,

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

---------------------------------------
Then go HERE (http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm) to run Panda's ActiveScan

* You need to use IE to run this scan
* Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
* A new window will open...click the Check Now button
* Enter your Country
* Enter your State/Province
* Enter your e-mail address and click send
* Select either Home User or Company
* Click the big Scan Now button
* If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
* It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
* When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
* When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report

I disabled SpywareGuard, I disabled TeaTimer, I fixed the items you advised in HijackThis and ran the Panda ActiveScan. This is where I had some issues as Avast was recognising it as a virus, and I didn't know how to disable it. I finally managed to do it, but then the activeX pop-up in my IE window popped-up probably a half dozen times before finally running the program. Here is finally the log.

I also have a question if I may... I want to make sure I don't get re-infected if my son's computer is also infected... could I use this post still to clean his once mine is done or should I start a new post now to clean his as well?

Here is the post.

Thank you. I did the system restore... (off and back on), I thought I had turned it off when I started this post, but apparently I didn't as it was not checked when I looked at the tab.

I could not do anything on my son's computer as he's getting the blue screen right now, and I cannot turn it on. The same thing happened at the end of last year, and was told there is a problem with the motherboard I believe... but the warrantee had just run out about a week prior... so now I gotta live with it. When it comes back to normal, I'll just start a new post for him.

I will also let you know in a few days how this computer does.

Thank you for all your help, I really appreciate everything, you have been a life saver.

 Well, that was short lived. I tried opening World of Warcraft to check it out, was getting antsy after a week of no play :p:, and I got a warning intruder alert... This is the message that popped up after clicking on play from the launcher.

"Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Agent variant" has been detected on your computer. Running this program may compromise the security of your computer and jeopardize your ability to play World of Warcraft. It is highly advised that you correct this problem before playing the game. For more information" [Click Here]
Continue Anyway Quit.

I am not sure if the warning came from the game itself (it looks like it did) or from my avast... I will wait for your reply before continuing as i don't want to compromise it yet again.

As my son could not use his own computer, he used mine while I was away at work... not sure what he did... hope he didn't download anything, I will "kill" him.

FYI, this is what I got from viruslist.com when looking up info about it.

Description added Feb 06 2006
Behavior TrojanDownloader
Technical details

This Trojan program is a Windows PE EXE file approximately 35KB in size.

Once launched, the Trojan registers itself in the system registry, ensuring that it will be launched each time Windows is rebooted on the victim machine:

[HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"<original file name>"="<path to Trojan program>"
Once activated, after a random interval, the Trojan will cause the following message to be displayed

(here is a picture of the message)

An icon with the following announcement is created in the system tray:

Your computer might be at risk

If the user clicks on this icon, or clicks on 'Yes', the Trojan will open an internet page containing a range of advertisements:

http ://www.msn*****.cc (added a space as it kept creating a link)

The Trojan may also download other programs from the Internet, save them on the victim machine and launch them for execution.

Download ATF Cleaner instructions here. (http://forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=1925)

Download AVG Anti-Spyware Instructions and download link can be found here (http://forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=3165).
Update it but DO NOT run a scan just yet, we will run the scan later.

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/Bitmaps/Folder.png

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter

http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/Bitmaps/Fix01b.png

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works.
It will create a file named: c:\rapport.txt
Please post the C:\rapport.txt in your next reply

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

I know you mean my son's computer, but I'm not sure what you mean by "choosing last known configuration." I'm not a computer dummy... but... I obviously don't know everything either :p:

I will do the scans you requested for my computer for now.

Warning: running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode. Instructions here if needed. (http://security-central.us/forums//showthread.php?t=1903)

Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.

http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/Bitmaps/Fix02b.png

The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Run ATF Cleaner

Close ALL open Windows / Programs / Folders. Please start AVG Anti-Spyware, and run a full scan.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or
programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess.
Lauch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop. Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab
then click on "Complete System Scan". ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little
time.
Once the scan is complete do the following: If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all
actions" Next select the "Reports" icon at the top. Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the
screen and save it as a text file on your Desktop (make sure to remember where you saved that file).Close AVG Anti-Spyware and Reboot in Normal Mode.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #3 - Delete Trusted zone by typing 3 and press Enter
Answer Yes to the question "Restore Trusted Zone ?" by typing
Y and hit Enter.

Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

Then post:
1.c:rapport.txt
2.AVG Anti-Spyware log
3.A new HijackThis log

Your may need several replies to post the requested logs, otherwise they might get cut off.

I know you mean my son's computer, but I'm not sure what you mean by "choosing last known configuration." Tap F8 when starting When you get to the selection screen you should have a choice of options one of them should be last known good configuration.
