Removed Malware- Several Problems Now

Hello All,

I am new to this community. Recently, I had several malware infections. After removal through Spybot and Bit Defender, my system has been crippled, and I've been entirely unable to repair it, short of the possibility of reinstalling Windows XP. While you guys are excellent at suggesting ideas to remove malware, I'm not sure if anyone can help with the aftermath of removal?

For example, after removal of said malware, I no longer have any network connections. I go into network connections and it is all blank. I cannot access the internet in any capacity. One of the infections corrupted or deleted my userinit.exe file, which I had to replace just to get into windows. Additionally, my Windows Installer no longer works properly, even after unregistering and registering the files, as well as updating to the latest version of Windows Installer. Without Windows Installer, not only can I not use the latest version of Spybot, but I cannot install any application that requires Windows Installer to run.

I am truly at my wit's end and I really cant afford to lose the amount of files I have stored on my drive at current. Does anyone have any suggestions? Repair installations have not fixed the issue...

Spybot has Recovery (white case with a red X) and you can put back anything it removed. I do not use BitDefender: http://www.bitdefender.com/site/contact/

Did you consider doing a System Restore back to before you made these changes?

A reinstall of the operating system may also be an option:

I am assuming you have Windows XP
