Help! First I am at my office. I read your sticky notes and I am the owner of my small business- veterinary hospital. This particular computer is at my desk but accessable by all the staff. You have my permission to let me screw up my machines (I own them all - darn to IT help but me) :red:

I have been infected with the following trojans: (may be more:sick:)

Backdoor.Win32.Agent.aju
Backdoor.Win32.Small.lu

I have run HJT - just to compare to other threads
I have run Smitfraud and Combofix and other AV
I have run multiple times - Spybot S&D (my favorite)
I have run Ad-aware - I think newest version
I have run Counterspy - trial version - says that the infection is there but won't get rid of it
I have run everything in Safe Mode as well as windows

I have Windows XP SP2 - will all updates
I have some regedit experience but I notice when I reboot my system there are many cmd boxes (like batch files) that start up - very fast but I do see Win32 showing up. I cannot find Win32 in the registry files when I do a search.

I have read that this is a back door key stroke logger and I want to get rid of it at last.

Please help as we have other medical files present and I do not see any other viruses here, but I await your expertise

Dr. Fred Frye

Hello.

Please see the stickied procedure for this forum: "BEFORE you POST"(READ this Procedure BEFORE Requesting Assistance) (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)

Skip the Spybot-S&D scan as you already ran it. But please, for the health of your machine, do not run any more tools when the source of the infection has not yet been analysed.

Copy/paste the HJT log and result of the on-line anti virus scan into this topic, and a helper will assist you when available.

Regards. :)

Thanks Tashi -

Per your instructions, I did no more scans or treatments to the computer. I currently have AVG Free addition 7.5 which runs a scan daily at 2 am. I finished the Kapersky's scan and the HJT scan. Here are the logs:

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

I apologize for the wait, not a lot showing in the HJT log, but what is showing is this:
You are running two antivirus programs at the same time and this is not a good thing. They conflict with each other and you will be less safe than if you ran one good program and maintained it properly.
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2000031316555206
"Microsoft recommends that you have only one anti-virus program installed on your computer."

C:\Program Files\Symantec AntiVirus\
C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\
Uninstall one of those, update and run a complete system scan with the other. Report anything it finds that can not be removed.

I do see infections in the Kaspersky and they can be nasty and tough to remove:

Delete the contents of that Recovery folder in red
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery\WinMurloff.zip/startdrv.exe Suspicious: Password-protected-EXE skipped

Looks like someone is opening infected files but as far as I can see they are in deleted items. Delete all email here: Deleted Items.dbx
C:\Documents and Settings\Doctor Station\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{2C7A8CD0-78FA-427F-BF86-AE333A20DC52}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Deleted Items.dbx/[From support@sbcglobal.net][Date Mon, 13 Jun 2005 20:05:38 -0400]/UNNAMED/account-info.zip/account-info.txt .pif Infected: Net-Worm.Win32.Mytob.bi skipped

Infected junk being download here, go into downloads and delete everything in there.
C:\Documents and Settings\Dr. Frye\My Documents\downloads\vertigolf_trial.exe/WISE0017.BIN/data0002/data0002 Infected: Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Keenval skipped

Remove Smitfraudfix in red from your computer. It must be downloaded fresh when needed.
C:\Documents and Settings\Dr. Frye\My Documents\Miscellaneous\virus killer\SmitfraudFix\Reboot.exe Infected: not-a-virus:RiskTool.Win32.Reboot.f skipped

Because I can't tell if the Mytob infection is active, I would remove the internet connection on this computer and only go online when you need to troubleshoot until we have it clean.

If your issues are not resolved, complete the instructions I posted and then restart the computer. At that point post the results of a new Kaspersky scan and a new HJT log running one antivirus program.
I will do what I can to help if this is done.

Thanks

Okay.

I was unable to uninstall Symantic Antivirus because it wants an unistall password (It is on the server) and I don't remember it. I tried to make it so that this computer did not load it, but I was afraid to disable ccAPP and ctfmon.exe - both were installed by Norton.

Any suggestions there would help.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback. I hope you read the information I posted so you understand the issues that can occur when antivirus programs conflict.
Use the Norton Removal Tool to remove a failed installation or a damaged Norton product.

I see some junk but no major malware in the HJT log. I will wait until Symantec is gone to clean it out.

KASPERSKY ONLINE SCANNER REPORT Monday, October 29, 2007 2:17:20 AM
Number of infected objects: 11

See this: http://research.sunbelt-software.com/threatdisplay.aspx?name=Trojan.Win32.Qhost.mg&threatid=163248
Careful to look for and delete only the backup item, I believe I have highlited it in red:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\hosts.20070928-115658.backup Infected: Trojan.Win32.Qhost.mg skipped

These items have to do with this: https://secure.logmein.com/home.asp?lang=en
Kaspersky is finding they may be infected files but not-a-virus. I do not use the program and can only suggest you discuss these finding with logmein support. I personally do not believe they are malware. They look like backups that have been made by logmein.

C:\Program Files\LogMeIn\update\2-30-555.bak\ramaint.exe Infected: not-a-virus:RemoteAdmin.Win32.RemotelyAnywhere.a skipped

You do have a couple of infected System Restore files and at least one is a trojan:
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{987E0331-0F01-427C-A58A-7A2E4AABF84D}\RP1463\A0151806.exe Infected: Trojan.Win32.Small.sh skipped

See these instructions:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/mcgill1.mspx

Once Symantec is removed, post a HJT log.

Thanks

Okay

thank you for the help. I finally got Symantic removed I think. I used the removal tool. I am using AVG 7.5 and I noticed that there were a couple of backdoor trojans that popped up, not sure why since I was not online at the moment. But we shall see.

Kapersky's still says that I have some nasties present.
Logmein.com is a program I use, it is a remote access for my system and it is not a virus.

Here is the HJT log I just ran:

You understand you still have these infected System Restore files? I try to wait to clean those so you only have to do it once.
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{987E0331-0F01-427C-A58A-7A2E4AABF84D}\RP1463\A0151806.exe Infected: Trojan.Win32.Small.sh skipped
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{987E0331-0F01-427C-A58A-7A2E4AABF84D}\RP1475\A0152508.exe Infected: not-a-virus:RiskTool.Win32.Reboot.f skipped
(they can not reinfect you as long as you so not do a System Restore)

You can post another Kaspersky scan but you must realize it is going to continue to call the Logmein stuff infected.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
Open Windows Defender, Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = \blank.htm
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = \blank.htm

O16 - DPF: {DF780F87-FF2B-4DF8-92D0-73DB16A1543A} - http://download.games.yahoo.com/game...ploader_v6.cab

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart and post a last HJT log.

I am using AVG 7.5 and I noticed that there were a couple of backdoor trojans that popped up, not sure why since I was not online at the moment. You will need to provide more information than that, the names and location of these "trojans" at the very least.

Thanks

Thank you again. Just to let you know, I disabled the restore and rebooted the machine, so when I do a Kapersky's again, those files should be gone.

The AVG virus/backdoor/trojans are in the vault. here is that information

Trojan horse Downloader.Agent.OFN C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ip6fw.sys 10/29/2007 11:29:39 AM ip6fw.sys 28.38 KB

Trojan horse BackDoor.Generic7.XXD C:\Documents and Settings\Dr. Frye\Local Settings\Temp\100015.exe 10/29/2007 11:35:19 AM 100015.exe 40.5 KB

I am re-running HJT and AFT per your instructions. I will post those again soon.

Thanks

Hi,

Okay, I repeated the HJT and Kapersky scans. here are the logs. I have already removed stuff from the vault and I ran AFT as directed. Let me know what you think.

Log Me In is not a virus but a Remote Access portal to my system so I can work at my desk from home.

You can use HJT to remove this from your computer:
O16 - DPF: {193C772A-87BE-4B19-A7BB-445B226FE9A1} (ewidoOnlineScan Control) - http://download.ewido.net/ewidoOnlineScan.cab
ewido was purchased by Grisoft and released as AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5

Your HJT log look clean of malware and all items being identified by Kaspersky are LogMeIn which can be considered false positives as long as you trust that program.

Thank you so much for the help. I was glad that I got things clean. I will now make a restore point and turn on MS Windows defender.

You have been wonderful
