Rogers Cable in Toronto gives Norton/antivirus/antispy for free. It is a download. After 15 or 20 attempts to download and install the newest version, the installation fails. Rogers has millions of customers and a good online support system who comes onto your desktop through remote assistance (not free). Anyway, after trying Norton and Mcafee removal tools and removing anything that remotely had any reference to a antispy product, it continues to fail.
After hours of live consultation including Rogers technical support, they told me to erase and reformat my hard drive. Thats correct folks. Instead of helping me discover the installation failure causes, they wanted me to remove 3 years of files and configuration, pictures and programs that I enjoy of my computer, just like THAT! Well instead, I have installed Spybot and AVG antivrus and using Windows firewall.
It seems to be working fine now. Thank you very much!

 that's interesting, thanks for sharing.

We see many Norton stories, here is one thread. First: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=7683 and last pages: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?p=118530 ;)
