Microbills System Nightmare

I have the Microbills sexxpassport thing popping up on my laptop, it has now reached the 10 minute lockdown. Having looked online for a way to rid myself of this but they all talk of going into "safe mode" when I hit F8 to do this, I have no Safemode option and I am really desperate now!

I have done a Hijackthis log and would be grateful for any help, my housemate said you were the people to ask!

Just want you to know that the reason you have this issue is because either you or someone who used your computer entered a porn site and agreed to the terms and conditions . This fix may or may not work but at the moment its all we have.

Please download Brute Force Uninstaller (http://www.merijn.org/files/bfu.zip) to your desktop.
Right click the BFU folder on your desktop, and choose Extract All
Click "Next"
In the box to choose where to extract the files to,
Click "Browse"
Click on the + sign next to "My Computer"
Click on "Local Disk (C: ) or whatever your primary drive is
Click "Make New Folder"
Type in BFU
Click "Next", and Uncheck the "Show Extracted Files" box and then click "Finish".
RIGHT-CLICK HERE (http://metallica.geekstogo.com/mbs.bfu) and choose "Save As" (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download MicroBill Remover.
Save it in the same folder you made earlier (c:\BFU).

Then, please go to Start > My Computer and navigate to the C:\BFU folder.
Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe
Behind the scriptline to execute field click the folder icon http://metallica.geekstogo.com/foldericon.png and select mbs.bfu
Press Execute and let it do it's job. (You ought to see a progress bar if you did this correctly.)
Wait for the complete script execution box to pop up and press OK.
Press exit to terminate the BFU program.
Reboot your computer and check if it worked.

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows including this one, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

Please download OTMoveIt (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/oldtimer/OTMoveIt.exe) by OldTimer.


Save it to your desktop.
Please double-click OTMoveIt.exe to run it.
Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):


C:\WINDOWS\system32\vi32.exe

Return to OTMoveIt, right click on the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be moved" window and choose Paste.
Click the red Moveit! button.
Copy everything on the Results window to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it on your next reply.
Close OTMoveIt


If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.


You have other issues along with this one, let me know if it worked, if not the only way around this is to pay them and cancel your account with them.

Thank you for your help. I have managed to complete a lot of this but struggled with the following: -

When searching for the 04-HKLM\run[mbssm32]C:WINDOWS\system32\vi32.exe log in the HJT scan. this log was not there so I was unable to fix it.

After downloading the OTmoveit thing you recommended, it would not open when dounble clicked as it said it was "not a valid win32 application"

The pop-up has not appeared yet but I never really know when it's going to.

What are the other problems you mentioned?

We need to move HJT to its own folder because it makes backups of what we are going to remove and those backup will be lost if HJT is not in its own folder.

Go to your C: drive and create a new folder and name it HJT.
Then go here C:\DOCUME~1\WINDOW~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\Temporary Directory 1 for hijackthis_199.zip\HijackThis.exe Right click on the Hijackthis icon ( looks like a stick of dynamite with a plunger ) and select CUT , then open the new folder you just created and right click in that folder and Select Paste.

Try going to your Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall MyWebSearch

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows including this one, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing :

Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Once your system is clean, we suggest that you reverse this to keep critical windows files from accidently being deleted.

Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
It should have an icon next to it:

Select it and click Remove.
Reboot your system.
Then go to the Sun Microsystems (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp) and install the update
Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 3 <--This is what you need to download and install.
If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp)
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future

I was unable to find all of the files in the HJT log relating to Mywebsearch but deleted the ones that were still there.

I was unable to delete C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch as it said that either I did not have access or the file was in use. (I double checked the presence of the mywebsearch listings you asked me to fix in HJT and they really were not there).

The C:\WINDOWSsystem32\vi32.exe file was still present but has been deleted as per your instructions.

Download Pocket Killbox (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Pocket_KillBox_d4709.html) to your desktop.

Highlight the file with the complete path inside the Quote Box and press Ctrl C on your keyboard.


C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch


Open Pocket Killbox
Go to File > Paste from clipboard
Set it to Delete on Reboot
Tick the box that says End Explorer shell while killing file
If its not greyed out..Click the radio button that say Unregister .dll before deleting.
Make sure Single File is selected
Click on the Red circle with the white X
It will ask you to confirm the deletion...Say yes
It will ask you to reboot, say yes

If you get a message "pending operations has been stopped by external process!" then reboot the computer manually.


The rest of your log looks fine :bigthumb: Lets hope MBS does not return.

wouldn't access the internet without it.

Thank you Ken. I have done that as directed.

i did move the HijackThis I had on my desktop to a file of its own but I think my housemate downloaded a copy of it the other day which I could not find so I downloaded it again, I don't know if that is the one!

I shall follow your instructions to stay safe, I will just have to ban my mates from the laptop as well :rolleyes:
