I have recently been infected by iedefender, which constantly pops up on my screen with warnings about how my computer is infected... It also has slowed my computer way down. I have tried several different virus/spyware software and non can get rid of it. spybot search and destroy couldn't get rid of it either. Can anyone help?
Thanks!

Hi ohamy2

  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hijack this

I did exactly what you said however, after I ran the scan and log file, my notepad said it couldn't find it and it came up blank. Is there a way I can cut and past the results to a notepad? I really appreciate you trying to help me!!!

Hi

Did you really choose Do a system scan and save a logfile?

If so, log file should be here -> C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.log.

So, copy & paste it from that location, please :)

Dear Shaba,
Please don't get annoyed with me!!! Ok, so I'm SURE I ran a Scan and save log file...several times in fact and everytime it kept saying "cannot find C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.log." It did the scan but would not put it in the notepad. It asked me if I wanted to "create a new one" and I selected yes but it would take me to a blank screen...same when I selected "NO". Do you know why?
