View Full Version : AdwareRemover2007 won't go away!

:sick:The last 48 hrs have been very frustrating in my attempts to remove AdwareRemover2007 and spybots. I read the guidance pskelley gave terminator 1315 and I thought it worked however it came back within 30 mins of going on line. I also read the thread Shaba had written on Beore you post.
I am currently running in Safemode. I disconnected from the internet to run the following: Norton 2008 Virus Scan, Ad-Ware2007, Spybot Search & Destroy, ATF Cleaner and Fixwareout. I cannot find the AdwareRemover2007 files in the add & remove window. They were present the first day but not now. The desk icons are now present for Error cleaner, Privacy Protector, and SpyWare&Malware Protection which leads me to believe the other files are hidden somewhere. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Here is my most current report which I ran in the Safe mode. Your assistance would truly be appreciated.

Hello and welcome to Safer Networking Forums.

My name is km2357 and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

Since I am still in training, I have to let experts check the content of my fixes before I post them so please be patient.

I will be giving you a series of instructions that need to be followed in the order in which I give them to you.

If for any reason you do not understand an instruction or are just unsure then please do not guess, simply post back with your questions/concerns and we will go through it again.

Please do not start another thread or topic, I will assist you at this thread until we solve your problems.

Lastly the fix may take several attempts and my replies may take some time but I will stick with it if you do the same.


I will be back as soon as possible with your first instructions!



Step # 1: Download and Run HijackThis
Download HJTInstall.exe (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/HJTInstall.exe) to your Desktop.

Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install it.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Copy/Paste the log to your next reply please.

Don't use the Analyse This button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
Don't have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Step # 2: Make an uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.


Step # 3 Post Logs

In your next post/reply, I'd like to see the following:

1. HiJackThis Log
2. Uninstall List

If you can't fit all the logs into one post/reply, then use multiple posts/replies to get all the logs in.

Step # 1 Remove Logitech Desktop Messenger

You appear to have a program on your system called Logitech® Desktop Messenger. This is a background process that can automatically access the Internet without your knowledge or permission. Although it does provide updates for your Logitech products, the fact that it can access the Internet without your consent is potentially dangerous. It does download and update your Logitech products but this can be done manually by visiting the Logitech web site. My advice would be to uninstall this program (Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs) but this is entirely your decision. I suggest doing all updates yourself and removing this application!




Step # 2 Download and run SmitFraudFix

Please download SmitfraudFix (http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.exe) (by S!Ri)

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe.
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.



Step # 3 Post Logs

In your next post/reply, I'd like to see the following:

1. SmitFraudFix Log
2. A fresh HiJackThis Log (in Normal Mode)

A couple of comments. I removed Norton 2008 which didn't give any indication of problems. I went to Kaspersky on-line and ran a scan which picked up several items. I went ahead and purchased that program. I do like several of the features which block attempts and it will allow you to select a block which automates every pop-up alert from something you've already taken action to block or remove. Step # 1: Boot into Safe Mode

You can go in Safe Mode by restarting your computer, then continually tapping F8 until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter.



Step # 2 Run SmitFraudFix


Once in Safe Mode, double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.


Step # 3 Post Logs

In your next post/reply, I'd like to see the following:

1. SmitFraudFix Report (C:\rapport.txt)
2. A fresh HiJackThis Log

I had a very difficult time with many windows opening up and the CPU was running at 100% most of the time due to the virus so it took 17hrs - was still running when I came back from work. You might want to discuss this with other more knowledgeable folks then myself, but once I had the necessary windows open I opened Win Task Manager. I then shut down Microsoft Outlook which freed up 50% of the CPU and allowed Kaspersky to run quickly. When it was complete I reopened the program under "New Task" and selected OK. This brought back the task bar and icons. I've done this several times over the past few days to allow the other programs to run when not in Safe Mode. Certainly worth discussing.

I would like to a look at a fresh Uninstall List from HiJackThis:

Make an uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.
