Hello and welcome to the forums

My name is Katana and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

Please observe these rules while we work:
1. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
2. Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
3. Please continue to respond until I give you the "All Clear"
(Just because you can't see a problem doesn't mean it isn't there)

If you can do those three things, everything should go smoothly :D

Looking at you log, I am not surprised you have "some issues with popups" :)

Download and Run ComboFix

Download Combofix from one of the two links below :

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

Then double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Do you know what this is ?
C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\system32.job

Disable Teatimer
First step: Right-click the Spybot Icon in the System Tray (looks like a blue/white calendar with a padlock symbol)
If you have the new version 1.5, Click once on Resident Protection, then Right click the Spybot icon again and make sure Resident Protection is now Unchecked. The Spybot icon in the System tray should now be now colorless.
If you have Version 1.4, Click on Exit Spybot S&D Resident Second step, For Either Version : Open Spybot S&D
Click Mode, choose Advanced Mode
Go To the bottom of the Vertical Panel on the Left, Click Tools
then, also in left panel, click Resident shows a red/white shield.
If your firewall raises a question, say OK
In the Resident protection status frame, Uncheck the box labeled Resident "Tea-Timer"(Protection of over-all system settings) active
OK any prompts.
Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.

Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
When finished, it will produce a log for you. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.
A window will open asking you to ensure you are connected to the internet, this is so a file can be submitted for analysis.
Click OK and follow the instructions to submit the file.

CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Firstly, sorry but I do not know what this is(!):
C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\system32.job

Secondly, when I ran HJT System Scan Only as specified, the following lines that you had asked me to put a check against were not present:
F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\vvgeowbv.exe,C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [jmfyrcda] rundll32.exe "C:\Program Files\jmfyrcda\norwpaby.dll",Init

However, I checked the remainder and clicked 'Fix Checked' according to your instructions. My AVG antivirus warned me about a trojan during this process. I told it to Ignore. I hope this was what you meant by "yes to any prompts"...

CFScript ran OK. This was submitted to BleepingComputer.com successfully.

Here is the CFScript log:

OK, things are starting to look better :)

Custom CFScript

Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\system32.job
C:\Windows\absolute key logger.lnk
C:\Windows\aconti.ini
C:\Windows\aconti.log
C:\Windows\aconti.sdb
C:\Windows\acontidialer.txt
C:\Windows\default.htm
C:\Windows\System32\sznf.ascii

Registry::
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon]
"Userinit"="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\userinit.exe,"

Save this as CFScript.txt and place it on your desktop.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScript.gif

Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
When finished, it will produce a log for you. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.

Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u3
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
Scroll down to where it says "The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
Click the "Download" button to the right.
Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Check for any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.

Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.

Clean Temporary Internet files
You need to clean out your temporary internet files
Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options.
On the General tab, click Delete Files under Temporary Internet Files.
In the Delete Files dialog box, tick the Delete all offline content check box, and then click OK.
On the General tab, click Delete Cookies under Temporary Internet Files, and then click OK.
Click on the Programs tab then click the Reset Web Settings button. Click Apply then OK.
Click OK.
You need to do this for each user account you have setup.

Kaspersky Online Scanner .

Go Here http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Read the Requirements and limitations before you click Accept.
Allow the ActiveX download if necessary
Once the database has downloaded, click Next.
Click Scan Settings and change the "Scan using the following antivirus database" from standard to extended and then click OK.
Click on "My Computer" and then put the kettle on!
When the scan has completed, click Save Report As...
Enter a name for the file in the Filename: text box and then click the down arrow to the right of Save as type: and select text file (*.txt)
Click Save - by default the file will be saved to your Desktop, but you can change this if you wish.

How are things running now ?

Hi, things are running a lot better now, thanks to your help. No more popups while browsing (fyi I've started to use Firefox), no more random redirects, no more error messages on startup/shutdown, no more phoney antivirus software notifications.

One thing is that while Kaspersky was running, AVG flashed up a load more virus notifications. This happenned only during the Kaspersky scan.

Firewall
You do not appear to have a firewall.
You may be using Windows firewall, however this only stops incoming traffic.
A third party firewall is much safer, as it stops malware that does get on your PC from contacting "home"
Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. For more info, check this (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial60.html) webpage out.
There are many free ones to choose from if cost is a problem. Visit here (http://www.freebyte.com/antivirus/#firewalls) to choose one.

So How Did I Get Infected In The First Place (http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=4959)

If you can see a program in the must have section that you have never seen or used then get it!

The last and most important thing I can tell you is UPDATE.
If you don't update your security programs (Antivirus, Antispyware even Windows) then you are at risk.
Malware changes on a day to day basis. You should update every week at the very least.

If you follow this advice then (with a bit of luck) you will never have to hear from me again :D

If you could post back one more time to let me know everything is OK, then I can have this thread archived.

Hi Katana

Thanks for all your help. Everything is running fine now. I've changed a lot of my internet security settings sych as prompting for cookies and ActiveX downloads and I've installed Zonealarm. I now have Spybot, TeaTimer, AVG, Zonealarm, Windows Defender (for occasional scans) and I will continue using Kaspersky every week or so.

Can you tell me whether you think the above would cause any security conflicts?

Once again, thanks so much for helping.

Cheers
Ross
