hi

You have the latest version of look2me. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so! This Fix must NOT be run in safe mode for it to work.

if you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."...then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

hi

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Cmaudio] RunDll32 cmicnfg.cpl,CMICtrlWnd is a legit item, so is the java update check ;)

the other two were badboys ;)

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter. It will process then start. Your desktop and icons will disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, it will be ready for a reboot. Press any key to reboot. After the reboot notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so! Do Not run in safe mode!!
If after the reboot the log does not open double click on it in the l2mfix folder.

Hello illukka.

You are right. "O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\jusched.exe" would not harm, but I thought it is not necessary in my case :) .

I did exactly what you have asked. I have attached l2mfix and HJTreports to this message.

illukka, I know you do not have much time, but can you please explain me what/why we are doing? I would like to understand it to have the ability to fix it next time (at least to try).

Thank you very much for your help.

hi

well done, the fix seems to have been succesful :bigthumb:

are these :
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present something that you have set yourself ?

if not, fix those

one question, did you post the log from an administrator account

L2me is a serious nasty, it hooks the system so that its removal is very difficult, hijacking winlogon.exe
it also has hidden component that protects it from removal and it auto updates itself, so that you have always the latest version :(
what it does, well it shows advertisements. to do this it uses a lot of system resources

i would like you to do an online virus scan:
Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner (http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner)

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT

Now click on Scan Settings
In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
Extended (if available otherwise Standard)

Scan Options:
Scan Archives
Scan Mail Bases

Click OK
Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer

The program will start and scan your system.
The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
Now click on the Save as Text button:
Save the file to your desktop.
Copy and paste that information in your next post.

also post a new hijackthis log

Hello illukka.

Thanks for your encouragement.

Both O6 entries are from "Ewido" software. I would prefer to leave them as they are for a while.

Yes, I did post all the logs from the Administrator Account.

You are absolutely right about this Look2Me virus. It is an extremely nasty and very difficult to remove. I have spent 3 day in row before posting my first message on this forum. Fortunately, you helped me to handle it down.

I have run Kaspersky on my Computer. Please find both reports (Kaspersky and HJT) in the attachment.

Do you think I have to log-in to my computer in safe mode and remove all these infected files (found by Kaspersky)?

Thanks for support. I would not solve this problem without you:) .

Regards.

hi

bad news:
that log looks badly infected, looks like there are several backdoors, rootkits, keyloggers and viruses. you may want to contact you bank and credit card company for possible unauthorised transactions!!

IMPORTANT- You need to disconnect this PC from the internet and from your network if it is on a network. Then, access this information from a non-compromised computer to follow the steps needed.

you need to take steps to protect your information that may have been compromised. I recommend these steps for action:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud? (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10451)

this is something i dont like to recommend normally, but with a computer this badly infected it would be the best solution for your safety to format the drive and do a fresh install of the operation system

if you still wish to continue cleaning this, it would be best to use another computer to download the necessary tools and to read this forum

if you choose to clean it follow these steps:

Download and Save Blacklight (http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml) to your desktop:

Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement, leave [X]scan through Windows Explorer checked, click > scan then > next

You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).

Copy and paste this log in your next reply. Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"

Do you think I have to log-in to my computer in safe mode and remove all these infected files (found by Kaspersky)?

Download System Security Suite here: System Security Suite Download & Tutorial (http://www.igorshpak.net/). Unzip it to your desktop. Install the program. Don't use it yet.

enable showing of system and hidden files:

* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Hello illukka.

Thanks for the warning. Now I understand better my poor situation (or more precise - poor situation of my computer). However, I decided to fight. It will give me at least some idea how to identify/eliminate the Malware/Trojan problems.

1) I have attached the log from “blbeta”. This time I did not forget to attach the actual file – progress :)
2) I have installed System Security Suite. http://www.igorshpak.net/ site was down during last 2 days, so I downloaded it from another site. Unfortunately I could not find the System Security Suite Tutorial nor from the link that you provided me, neither from the site where I have downloaded the “3ssetup104.zip” file. I hope it is not so critical. Anyway you are guiding me through every step. It is just my curiosity
3) I removed all the files that you told me to remove in SafeMode.
4) I used System Security Suite to remove all Internet related files.
5) Removed Offline Content.
6) Ran Kaspersky scan. Please find its log attached to this letter.
7) Ran HJT scan. Please find HJT’s log in the attachment.

I have a general question: Is it possible to steal the password through Ethernet if it is not stored in cookies (that mean every time when I am entering into a secure site I have to type my password, even for my e-mail check)?

Thank you very much for your quick respond. I really appreciate your care.

Regards.

hi

the blacklight log shows infections, invisible in the hjt log though

the infection you had/possibly still have is a keystroke logger, it writes everything you type on the computer to a file (with window titles ) then it sends the logs to the offender, either uploading them to a site/ftp or using a built in SMTP engine to send as email messages

now he/they has access to everything you have typed on the machine!!!
including secure sites passwords, logons etc

the infection is completely hidden by a rootkit driver, so nothing it does is visible

i'll be back soon with some suggestions how to handle the situation, meanwhile consider the formatting/reinstalling again

hi
create a new restore point(if possible)

do another scan with blacklight, it will show a list of items, highlight the following one at a time and choose rename for each of them:\WINDOWS\system32\klgcptini.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\qz.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\qz.sys
C:\WINDOWS\system32\stt82.ini
C:\WINDOWS\system32\avpe32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\avpe64.sys
then click next
allow blacklight to reboot the pc

after reboot rescan with hijackthis, post its log

How is it going bob2006?

Thanks, I am fine. Sorry for the delay.

I will do what illukka suggested and will post the HJT report (have not had a chance yet).

I do not want to reinstall my Windows XP because relatively it is a new installation (from November 2005). Where is warranty that the same malware will not attack on the next day after new installation? I am playing cracked games, so probably all this malware is from crack exe files. So it is better for me to clean these problems and to learn how to protect my computer for future. In addition to the instructions how to clean my computer, can you please advice me a good site where I can read about how to protect myself from malware/Trojans?

Thank you very much in advance and for all what you guys are doing.

hi

that log looks much better :bigthumb:

does a blacklight scan produce any results now ?

also can you do this:
go to Panda ActiveScan (http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm)

Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button.
A new window will open...click the Check Now button.
Enter your Country
Enter your State/Province
Enter your e-mail address and click send
Select either Home User or Company
Click the big Scan Now button

If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
When the download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the Panda scan report, along with a new HijackThis Log and the results of blacklight, if any

good luck :)

Hello illukka.

Thanks for good news :D . I will definitely do what you advise me and then I will post all the logs.

I went to http://www.nsclean.com. Are you saying that buying and using BOClean 4.20 solves all malware problems? Hard to believe, but if it is true, I am certainly going to use it.

Thank you for your unique help and support.

hi

i am not saying that boclean is the holy grail but for instance those you had now, if you had boclean those would be yanked now..

these files need to be deleted
C:\secure32.html<<--file
C:\WINDOWS\tool1.exe<<--file
C:\WINDOWS\uninstall_nmon.vbs<<--file
C:\WINDOWS\winsysupd1.dat<<--file
C:\PROGRAM FILES\VVSN<<--folder
C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\InetGet<<--folder
C:\WINDOWS\inet20010<<--folder

i see no traces of firewalls, or antiviruses in your last log
having both is essential.

did you se t these yourself, using spybot for example?
