please help. Running Windows XP. Have installed and used Spybot Search & Destroy, Hijack this and Smitfix.
All are unable to remove security alert popups stating W32.MZor.FK@yf is infecting my computer. Spybot removed a lot of infections but can't remove
CoolWWWSearchaff.winshow
I've also lost my IE toolbar so can't access IE tools.
thanks for anything you can do!
Hello tufenuf55
Welcome to Safer Networking.
Please read Before You Post (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)
All advice given by anyone volunteering here, is taken at own risk.
While best efforts are made to assist in removing infections safely, unexpected stuff can happen.
Download and install Trendmicros Hijackthis (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/hijackthis.php?page=download)
Download the Trendmicro Hijackthis Installer, follow defauts and it will install in C:\Program Files\Trendmicro\Hijackthis and this is exactly where we want it to be.
Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
Go to Format and make sure Wordwrap is Unchecked
Go to Edit> Select All.....Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread by using the Post Reply and not start a New Thread.
DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
This is important , do this before you post a Hijackthis log
C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe<-- Right click on Hijackthis.exe ( looks like a man with a spyglass ) and rename it to Scanner.exe

while I do appreciate your trying to help, most of what you have instructed me to do is "Greek" to me. a little too technical. Can you reduce for inexperienced people like me?
Do this, just read thru it and download and install Hijackthis. It will produce a log that will show where malware is hiding if your infected. There is nothing I can do for you until I see a Hijackthis log.

Hello tufenuf55.
Another topic of yours was archived for lack of a response to Mr_JAk3.
You managed to produce a HJT log in that thread. ;)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=16989
Our volunteer helpers give instructions clearly and precisely, honed over the years.
If you are finding the fixes too difficult for you to follow, then it might be best for the machine to be taken to a computer repair shop?
Best regards. :)

This is where we stand, your HJT log looks exactly the way it did when you originally posted in August, so all the time and effort that Mr_JAk3 put into helping you was all done in vain when he could have helped another poster removing malware from there computer. I can appreciate that at times your called away or busy at work and you cant get right back, but if you fail to follow through with fixing this computer then we will be unable to help you in the future. I also really do not understand why you replied to my post about installing Hijackthis was all Greek to you when you posted a HJT log to Mr_JAk3 .
With that said, you have many infections on this system, lets start by running these programs.
Download VundoFix (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4 ) to your desktop
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.
Download ComboFix from Here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) or Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop.
Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post the Combofix log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall
Please download SmitfraudFix (http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.
Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
Run these in order and I need to see ..
1. Vundofix log
2. Combofix log
3. Smitfraud log
4. New HJT log

We need to disable the Tea Timer in Spybot Search and Destroy as to not interfere with the fix.
Open Spybot and go to Mode> Advanced Mode> Tools> Resident and take the checkmark out of Tea Timer
Reboot your system for it to take effect
C:\Program Files\Exqmm\Nlnbaff.exe <-- is this a program or anything you know about and use????
1. Please download The Avenger (http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/avenger.zip) by Swandog46 to your Desktop. Click on Avenger.zip to open the file Extract avenger.exe to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):
Folders to delete:
C:\Program Files\Video Add-on
C:\Program Files\ProSiteFinder
Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.
3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
Click Done
Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh HJT log by using Add/Reply
Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows including this one, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing :
Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.
Once your system is clean, we suggest that you reverse this to keep critical windows files from accidently being deleted.
Go to this site Jotti Upload (http://virusscan.jotti.org/) and under the browse feature, browse to this file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\hjhq3a23.exe
Then click on Submit and it will give you a report, post the report in your next reply.

I don't know what this file is:
C:\Program Files\Exqmm\Nlnbaff.exe
Question:
I have downloaded Avenger to my desktop. Where or what is the "clipboard"? Thanks
When you highlight all those folders to be removed , you right click and select COPY and its saved to an electronic clipboard on your computer, than you can right click in a word document, email or just about anything and select Paste and it will paste those files.
Just by pass the Avenger for the moment and lets see if we can remove them manually.
Go to your Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel and see if any of these are listed, if so uninstall them if you can, they may not let you.
C:\Program Files\Video Add-on
C:\Program Files\ProSiteFinder
C:\Program Files\Exqmm
Let me know which if any that you could delete.

The only one listed was Video Add on and I was able to remove it.
Follow the instructions I posted about enabling all files and folders and see if you can delete these manually by right clicking on each one and selecting delete.
C:\Program Files\Video Add-on
C:\Program Files\ProSiteFinder
C:\Program Files\Exqmm
If you cant, then lets run them through the Avenger., I changed the script to include Exgmm. Just highlight all the files in the Code box with your mouse and either press Ctrl and C on your keyboard or after its highlighted , right click and select Copy.
1. Please download The Avenger (http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/avenger.zip) by Swandog46 to your Desktop. Click on Avenger.zip to open the file Extract avenger.exe to your desktop

The first time I ran Avenger, I didn't see that you had added another file in the later post and just entered the first two because Video Pro had been deleted. Everything went okay and Avenger did reboot system. When I hit refresh icon I saw that you had added another file for Avenger and I've entered that one. I received the following: "Error: selected file does not appear to be a valid script." Then when I clicked continue, I got another message that it is "Code 1813". Thought I'd better stop and let you know this.

How is your system running now??

It's greatly improved. Thanks so much.
Still not able to get my IE toolbar that shows "tools" etc. so I can delete temp files without having to go to my computer. Also unable to use "my favorites". When I click on to save a fav, it just changes the screen from one type of view of the website to another view. Won't save. One last thing. In microsoft word, whenever I use it it will show some kind of foreign language in a box then it takes me to screen where I can type; then when I exit, it shows message...something about global...normal...and I have to click off two or three boxes. Never had to do that before. Could you help me with this or do I need to go to Microsoft's website?
Sometimes these infections cause other kinds of problems, not sure if what your experiencing now is related to the removal of the infections.
You can post in one of these forums for guidance in that area.
