CiD disease! help me get rid of it!!!

I downloaded divec or something like that because cyberdvd wasn't playing my video files properly - I realized pretty soon thereafter that it was a bad move. Now I'm plagued with this CiD disease - can you please help? It's freezing my computer as it uploads IE browsers while I'm on Firefox - and the worst part is my 4 year old son asking what the naked lady is doing on the pop ups!

This one can be tough to remove so follow the directions carefully. Before we start, your Kaspersky scan is being stretched all over the place because of infected files in the ClamWin quarantine folder, would you please delete the contents of the folder in red:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\.clamwin\quarantine\

Please Download NoLop to your desktop from here:

First close any other programs you have running as this will require a reboot
Double click NoLop.exe to run it.
Now click the button labelled "Search and Destroy"
<<your computer will now be scanned for infected files>>
When scanning is finished you will be prompted to reboot only if infected, Click OK
Now click the "REBOOT" Button.
A Message should popup from NoLop. If not, double click the program again and it will finish Please Post the contents of C:\NoLop.log along with a fresh HijackThis log

Hello!

Thank you for your help! I do still need it. I did as you said and got rid of the quarantine files from ClamWin yesterday morning. But when I ran No Lop it said that I had no infections - I also ran Spy Bot & AdAware just to see if they'd catch anything and everything came out ok. So I decided to wait since the pop ups tend to come in the evenings and night. I don't think we had any popups occur overnight - or my husband is just so used to them now that he didn't say anything to me this morning. But as I checked email, they were coming up constantly and now they are on Firefox as well :( I ran No Lop once more and it still said there is nothing. I rechecked the quarantine folder and there is still nothing there. I went to AdAware and got rid of it's quarantine contents and still I'm getting pop ups. SDFix may remove that trojan for us if you decide to proceed:
Thanks to andymanchesta and anyone else who helped with the fix.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
Choose your usual account.
Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

I have spent the whole morning trying to get the computer to connect to the internet - it comes and goes in spurts - what I mean is, the computer is running so slow right now that it's hard to get it to do anything. You need to slow down and read the instructions I am posting for you. I asked for the log from NoLop, the report SDFix and the HJT log.

I did not request a Kaspersky scan results???

Would you post the report from SDFix please and nothing else until I have some time to look at the stuff you are posting. The HJT log must be run AFTER the SDFix is complete.

Thank you for the HJT log. Understand this is going to be a little difficult and you must follow these instructions carefully so you do not damage your computer.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe <<< this is a valid file that the computer will not work without. The hackers know this and they call their junk the same thing to make it hard to remove.

Here is what the bad file looks like:

C:\WINDOWS\C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe <<< there will be only one and it is running in your Service like this:

O23 - Service: Security Center (wscsvc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe (file missing)

(file missing) <<< ignore this, that file is there. Take your time, print the directions if you can and go slow, making sure you have no interruptions while you are doing this.

We will try to to it like this first:


1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) Disable the Service
Click Start > Run and type services.msc then OK
Scroll down to Security Center and right click on it.
Click Properties and under Service Status click Stop, then under Startup Type change it to Disabled.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

5) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Software rule flag owns\ <<< delete that folder

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\coalsurfsafe\ <<< delete that folder

7) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log.

Hi!

I tried to do what you suggested and found that I am missing printer files and am unable to print. At first I copied it off the screen and followed your directions. But a couple of the files that you said would show up on HJT didn't. So I went back to see if there was a fixable problem with the printer by uninstalling and reinstalling the driver & software. I'm still not able to print but I don't think it is related to this problem - I think it's because my computer is running so slow and windows suggested I delete some files. I must have deleted something I needed. I tried to do a windows update and it didn't catch anything there. Anyway, I tried to delete folders but the only one that showed up was being "used by another program" even though I had nothing opened and the trash was emptied. I tried it a few times in a few different ways but it wouldn't budge. Any suggestions? I'm ready to back up my files (which will take a few hours) and just restore the whole system. Mainly because now I've messed up my printer and I have this virus. If I did that, would I get rid of the virus or is it here to stay until I take care of it the way you suggest?

Thanks for the feedback, you don't have to print the instructions, some folks just find it easier to have them in front of them.

Understand HJT is a process manager, when you remove the items with HJT it ends the process so if you go to the file/folder to delete them you should be able to do so, but you must go there just after HJT stops the process. Once you restart the computer they are running again.

I can tell little about any progress you have made unless you post the HJT log for me to see.

You say
just restore the whole system if you are talking about System Restore, unless you can go back before a time when the infection was present, I doubt that will fix your problem.

If you are talking about a reformat (completely wiping the drive and reinstalling everything) that would do it but I just don't think that is necesaary unless it is what you wish to do.

I would suggest your run System File Checker. If you have a missing or corrupt Windows file it should put it back for you:
OK... try this. Click Start > Run, type in sfc /scannow, hit Enter.
Note: there is a space between sfc and /scannow
This should replace any corrupted/missing system files and will hopefully fix things. You may need your XP disc in your CD drive for this.

Your Printer <<< SFC will not help that problem, you may want to reinstall the printer software.

Thank you for your help. I turned off the computer and unplugged everything last night and started it all over today. I think I was so worried about this Lop deal that I completely forgot to just turn off my printer and reset it. So now that is fine.

I went through your steps again, and this is what happened:

3) Disable the Service
Click Properties and under Service Status click Stop, then under Startup Type change it to Disabled.

Here is what I see in the Kaspersky scan:

This is a trojan running from a Temp folder, delete the contents of that Temp folder in red. The trojan is the executable > sta6.exe

Looks like it is probably LOP/C2 Media also.

This is leftover LOP that was not removed, that folder in red along with the contents must be deleted.
