And by posting here, your question and data is stored on our servers and not automatically shared with a whole social media network.

    We'll also start using the forum for small bits of information, announcements and more again.

HELP!!! Lost ability to get on-line

I down-loaded the Halloween beta today, and ever since running it, I have been unable to access the internet. When I open either IE or Firefiox, no pages open. I cannot ping any sites through the command prompt either.

I am on a home wireless network, and I can print wirelessly, so I know it isn't a network issue. Also, my machine (running XP SP2) has Google desktop running, and this can pull my e-mail to the desktop, so somewhere I have internet access. I have tried to restore to an earlier set-pioint through windows, but thus far every restore point I try tells me that there have been no changes and I cannot restore.

I need HELP!

Please make sure you have all updates installed. (If you don't know how to use the update function yet, here's a short tutorial including a screenshot: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/howto/update.html ).
Restore the files you deleted with Spybot - Search & Destroy: Run Spybot - Search & Destroy, select 'Spybot - Search & Destroy' --> 'Recovery' from the left bar and restore all the files and entries, which are in association with the item that should be restored. For your problem, it is especially important to have the tools update installed. Here is the direct download link for the tools update:

After following these steps please try again. Be sure that all the Explorer windows are closed. Maybe you will have to restart your computer.

Further please open the Tools menu in your Internet Explorer and choose 'Spybot - Search Destroy Configuration'.
There you will find a drop down menu where you should select "Ask for blocking confirmation".

If you want to visit a blocked website choose "Allow". Hope this solves the problem.
If this doesn't work please run Spybot-S&D and select "Spybot-S&D" --> "Immunize" in the navigation bar on the left. Please hit "Undo".
Then choose 'Tools' from the navigation bar on the left and untick the checkbox in front of the 'SdHelper'.

But Warning: now the bad downloads won't be blocked any longer! Maybe you have to restart your computer now. Then try again to open your favourite pages. Don't forget to "immunize" again after visiting that page.
