View Full Version : Spybot Locking Up?

So, I've just installed Spybot and am scanning (I know there are several viruses, etc. on my computer).
However, when Spybot gets to 30374/99080 progress (scanning for Win32.agent.pz) it just sits there. The program itself isn't locking up, and acts somewhat as if it's still running, but it's been stuck on this one spot for over ten minutes now. Do I just need to wait longer? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hello,
Which version of Spybot do you run?

Running WXP
My system hangs at the same point during a scan, win32agent.pz, 30374. Problem occurred with version 1.4 and continues with new install of latest 1.5 version downloaded and installed today. Any ideas?

Sandra,
I downloaded the SpyBot 1.5 beta from the link you provided and it stripped out the Win32.agent.pz dll's without having to reboot, thanks
BTW - Is the 1.5 beta the same as the 1.5 download provided on Spybot's site? The beta download seemed faster or is it just me?

Hello,
The 1.5 on the download site is the final version.
The beta version is new and has already some bug fixes in it.

I am having the same probem. I've tried version 1.4, 1.5, and the beta from the link above, and they all hang on Win32Agent.pz. What can I do about this? Does it mean my machine is infected?

Hello,
Please also do the following:
Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:
* Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
* Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
* Click the "Delete Cookies" button
* Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
* When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content",
click OK
Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have
Firefox installed):
* Go to Tools > Options.
* Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
* Click the Clear button located to the right of each option
(History, Cookies, Cache).
* Click OK to close the Options window
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing
by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the
information.
Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin
* Go to start > run and type: *cleanmgr* and click ok.
* Let it scan your system for files to remove.
* Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle
Bin are the only things checked.
* Press OK to remove them.

Hello,
@williamjr: that is bullshit...Spybot - Search & Destroy can't infect anything because it is not an infection - it is an antispyware-tool.
@Aelanna: It should also help to deactivate the scanning for usage tracks.
Please run Spybot-S&D and switch to "Advanced mode" via the menu bar item "Mode". Now select "Settings" --> "File Sets" in the navigation bar on the left. The checkboxes in front of "Usage tracking" and "tracks.uti" have to be unticked if you do not want to find usage tracks anymore.
If this does not help please edit the shortcut icon on your desktop that is used to run Spybot-S&D.
Rightclick the icon and choose properties.
Then include a /verbose (with a space tab in front) in it's link location at "Target".
"C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SpybotSD.exe" /verbose
To see how to do that please have a look at this link in our forum:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=23560
Or have a look at this how to flash tutorial (http://www.safer-networking.org/flash/howto/howto-spybotsd-enable-verbose-en.htm).
When you do a scan now, it will show an 8 digit number in the status bar at the bottom, like $1234ABCD.
Please post that information here.
They can use this information to look up where exactly it hangs. Thanks.
Best regards
