I tried to do the Kapersky online scan, however, after trying to install the ActiveX it resulted in a error, and Kapersky was unable to scan my computer.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

Thanks, it looks like a Vundo infection and that can be tough to remove, let's start like this:

1) See this: http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_11\ <<< update Java and then uninstall all old versions in Add Remove Programs.

2) TeaTimer will block changes we must make, use these instruction to turn it off until we are done.
http://russelltexas.com/malware/teatimer.htm

3) Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix.

Please understand these hackers can call there junk anything they wish. Vundofix may not know the files at first, but it will learn. You want to run the fix until you see all Vundo files say: "Has been deleted"

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThislogin a reply to this thread.Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

If there is a file VundoFix doesn't find we need it submitted. Please submit
the files to upload malware http://www.uploadmalware.com

(wait until you finish to posts reports and logs)

4) Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.

Download ComboFix from Here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) or Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the Vundofix report, combofix report and a new HJT log. Add any comments you think will help.

Thanks

Fella

Hi, I did everything you said, however, I don't know why my ComboFix isn't working. It gets to this part

Scanning for infected files . . .
This typically doesn't take more than 10 minutes
However, scan times for badly infected machines may easily double

ComboFix has changed your clock settings.
Do not change it back. It shall be restored later

Completed Stage_1

and stops moving. Is there something I'm supposed to do?

As for the VundoFix, I ran it and it didn't find anything. Here's the log.

VundoFix V6.5.11

Checking Java version...

Java version is 1.5.0.11

Scan started at 4:01:36 PM 11/8/2007

Listing files found while scanning....

No infected files were found.

Yes...read the directions again and follow them. Copy/paste all logs, DO NOT code or quote them.
You read and follow the directions, I will look at the information in the AM EST.

Thanks

The ComboFix froze while, or after scanning, for some reason. It got to "Completed_Stage1" after changing the time settings and just stopped. I left it there for a good hour to one and a half hours and nothing happened.

The ComboFix froze while, or after scanning, for some reason. It got to "Completed_Stage1" after changing the time settings and just stopped. I left it there for a good hour to one and a half hours and nothing happened. Are you positive you read and followed the directions? It needs to installed on the DESKTOP to run correctly.

Hold off on that tool, we may need to return and try again, I will let you know.

Download the attached zip file and unzip it to your Desktop.
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf
Right-click on the deldomains.inf file and select 'Install'

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O15 - Trusted Zone: *.avsystemcare.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.gomyhit.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.imageservr.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.imagesrvr.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.virusschlacht.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.avsystemcare.com (HKLM)
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.gomyhit.com (HKLM)
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.imageservr.com (HKLM)
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.imagesrvr.com (HKLM)
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.virusschlacht.com (HKLM)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Run Clean Manager
http://spyware-free.us/tutorials/cleanmgr/

Restart the computer and try the Kaspersky scan again using these instructions.

Run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

Then post it here along with a new HJT log and some feedback from you.

Thanks

Fella

Ok, I installed the deldomains.inf file and when I ran HJT there was no O15 - Trusted Zone on the list.

Then I did the disk clean up.

Then I did the Kapersky Scan and here's the log.

I just noticed that I havn't explained the symtoms of my problem. I don't know if it's relevent but what happens is, on start up my computer is fine. But after 20 seconds or so, the Task Bar and Desktop Icons start to dissapear and come back every 5 seconds or so. After about a minute of this, the Desktop completely dissapears and the Task Bar either dissapears or freezes up.

Also, during the flashing period, if I have any of the "My Computer" windows open, not sure what they're called, they would automatically be closed after the Task Bar flashes back. These windows are bacically the windows used to navigate the harddrive and such.

After the Task Bar freezes up, I have no access to my start menu or "My Computer". I've been using the Task Manager to get around and run new programs and such.

I hope this helped. And again thanks for helping me out.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback. Let's wait until this junk that was hidden from HJT is remove to see if the symptoms cease. Be careful to delete all of this junk and then install ATF-Cleaner and run it also, then a new Kaspersky scan. I only need to see the scan if it is not clean and you have questions.

KASPERSKY ONLINE SCANNER REPORT 2007-11-09 19:01

Number of infected objects: 19

You still have malware in your Temp folder that Clean Manager did not seem to clean?

Here is a nice free cleaning tool from the creator of Vundofix if you wish, I use it with most cleanups:
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/19/2/

Let's see if we can manually delete the junk:

C:\Documents and Settings\Steven W\Local Settings\Temp\ <<< delete the CONTENTS of that folder in red

C:\Program Files\ESET\infected\0HAO2RAA.NQF Infected: Email-Worm.Win32.Nugache.a skipped
You have infected items in the ESET "infected" folder, I assume that is some knde of quarantine, delete the contents.

C:\Program Files\Wizet\MS hax 2\kaspersky.sys Infected: Rootkit.Win32.Agent.fd skipped
I do not know what this is, but my advice is to remove that program in red from your computer. Appears they bundle a rootkit trojan with it. Let's hope that is the last of that rootkit!

C:\WINDOWS\17PHolmes572.exe <<< delete that file

C:\WINDOWS\b122.exe <<< delete that file

C:\WINDOWS\mrofinu572.exe.tmp <<< delete that file

Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 19:02, on 2007-11-09 HJT log looks fine

Let me know how you are running once that junk is removed.

Thanks

Fella

Ok, I've deleted those files listed, as well as ran the ATF-Cleaner to clear out my temp files. But the problem is still here.

Thanks for returning your information, you said:

But the problem is still here.
Could you take the time to describe this "problem" give me some symptoms. If you are receiving error messages, post them word for word. You give me nothing to go on.

Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 14:39, on 2007-11-11
Looks clean.

KASPERSKY ONLINE SCANNER REPORT 2007-11-11 14:36

Number of infected objects: 4

These are infected System Restore and can't get back on the computer. We will clean those before we finish:
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{AE0C6B75-B209-4661-A926-EB3861C9EFCB}\RP3\A0002101.exe Infected: Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Agent.emo skipped
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{AE0C6B75-B209-4661-A926-EB3861C9EFCB}\RP3\A0002102.exe Infected: Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Agent.erf skipped
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{AE0C6B75-B209-4661-A926-EB3861C9EFCB}\RP3\A0002133.sys Infected: Rootkit.Win32.Agent.fd skipped

This is a bad on, delete that folder in red.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Mz02r\Mz02r1065.exe Infected: Trojan-Downloader.Win32.VB.bqc skipped

Restart and give me some information.

Thanks

Basically happens is that my computer is fine on start up. But after 30 seconds the taskbar and desktop icons begin to dissapear and reappear. Also, everytime the taskbar dissapears, any window I have on that's a My Computer or just any navigation window is closed. After about a minute of the dissapearing and reappearing, the Desktop completely dissapears and the task bar either freezes up, or completely dissapears as well.

There are no error messages currently, however right before this happened I did get a few Runtime and C++ errors that kept coming up. I don't remember what they said, but after I rebooted my computer this happened.

This is what my screen looks like with the taskbar gone.

I have no idea what would cause those symptoms, the runtime error messages may provide us a clue if you can get them word for word:
See this: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Runtime+and+C%2B%2B+errors+&btnG=Google+Search

It is likely something other than malware is causing this, but I want to rule malware out. Start by running a new Kaspersky scan, it should now be clean. If it is clean, just tell me so, do not post it, post it only if you have infections showing.

Give combofix a try again, to see if you can get it to run, make sure you read and follow the directions. Don't use the version you had earlier, delete it from your computer and download it new. Be sure you are signed in as administrator.

Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.

I would like to look at the results of a diagnostic which you can run free here:
http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/ If you take the time to register (free) you will be able to save the test results and post a link to it so I can see it. Have a look here:
http://pcpitstop.invisionzone.com/index.php?showforum=6
at some of the links to test results others post so you will post the correct information for me.

Thanks
