I've just been infected 2 days ago and I've been trying to remove it from my PC.

My SB S&D v1.5 was able to remove it but whenever I run it again, it will inevitably detect that Smitfraud spyware again.

I'm gonna post some logs that I got from SmitFraudFix and Hijackthis to make things a little faster:

SmitFraudFix v2.252

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

Please read the Instructions I posted above, which is pinned to the top of the forum and these instructions:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=16806
I will let you know when to run and post the Kaspersky scan.

http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< tutorial if needed

Clean:
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Optional:
To restore Trusted and Restricted site zone, select 3 and hit Enter.
You will be prompted: Restore Trusted Zone ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to delete trusted zone.
Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

Post the C:\rapport.txt and a new HJT log.

Thanks

Sorry wasn't able to boot in Safe Mode. It just hangs there when loading the SPTD.sys file or something like that. I'm using WinXP SP2 btw.

Uhm, I'm not really sure what happened but, I ran SB S&D, then removed Smirfraud-C along with Zlob.downloader.vcd, went to my recently downloaded files, deleted a file I downloaded 2 days ago, then restarted my PC.

Whan I ran SB S&D, only the Zlob.downloader.vcd was detected. Right now I have removed it with SB.

I'm just gonna restart my PC then run SB again to make sure.

OK, Smitfraud-C is officially removed (I hope) from my PC. But now I have another recurring Trojan detected by SB S&D: Zlob.downloader.vcd

Ran SmitFraudFix (dunno if it will be relevant) and Hijackthis. Here are their logs:

What really happened is you did not follow directions and ran the "Search" function in Smitfraudfix twice. This results in a duplicate of the first run of Smitfraudfix and we know the junk is there, we need to remove it.
Return to my post #3 and start here: Clean:

Follow the directions, here is a tutorial for booting in safe mode:
http://spyware-free.us/tutorials/safemode/
Be patient, sometimes it takes a little while for it to happen.

If you absolutlely can not get to safe mode (and that is a problem, that is your Diagnostic mode) then run the fix in normal mode, it will not do as good of a job, but it might serve our purpose.

I need the report and log again once you complete these instructions.

Thanks

I do believe its gone! SB S&D wasn't able to detect anything at all and the icons and the active desktop have disappeared as well. Thank you very much! Hope I didn't bother you so much.

I'm gonna post the logs of both SmitFraudFix and HJT just to be sure:

Thanks for returing your information, first your HJT log, this is what I see:

C:\Program Files\DAP\DAP.EXE <<< if you paid for this, I suppose it's ok. I really do not believe Windows XP needs any help with downloads and I believe it is a waste of resources for anything it gives. If you did not pay for it, see this:
http://www.castlecops.com/startuplist-7192.html

Note that the free version is adware based

Megaupload Toolbar <<< optional and not needed as far as I believe, if you must use it, be aware of this information:
http://www.castlecops.com/clsid-30914.html

Besides that, I see no malware in the HJT log.

Smitfraudfix:
»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» hosts
hosts file corrupted !

I am concerned the hosts file did not get cleaned because the fix was run in normal mode? Let's reset the Hosts Files to the Microsoft original like this:

Download HostsXpert v4.\1 - Hosts File Manager.
http://www.funkytoad.com/download/HostsXpert.zip
Unzip HostsXpert - Hosts File Manager to a convenient folder such as C:\HostsXpert
Click HostsXpert.exe to Run HostsXpert 4.1 - Hosts File Manager from its new home
Click "Make Hosts Writable?" in the upper right corner (If available).
Click Restore Microsoft's Hosts file and then click OK.
Click the X to exit the program.
Note: If you were using a custom Hosts file you will need to replace any of those entries yourself.

If you wish a good Hosts files, have a look at this one:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

I would like you to run the Kaspersky online scan to double check for hidden junk. Your resident Kaspersky may complain, if it does, turn it off while you run the scan and then turn it back on.

Run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

Then post it here.

Thanks
