Hello!

How often does SpyBot v1.5.1's updater updates Windows' host files? I noticed my host files were last updated on 9/5/2007. Have there been any updates since then?

Thank you in advance. :)

Spybot's HOSTS file has been updated every week (nine times) since 2007-09-05.

... why isn't my hosts updated automatically?
Spybot is not designed to update the Windows HOSTS file automatically because some people do not want to use Spybot's hosts file entries.

Although Spybot Hosts file has been updated weekly since 2007-09-05, you must take some action to add Spybot's Hosts file entries to the Windows HOSTS file.

All versions of Spybot:

Add Spybot's Hosts file as follows:
Go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced Mode > Tools > Hosts file.
Click on the "Add Spybot S&D hosts list" button.
Spybot 1.5 only:

Add Spybot's Hosts file as follows:
Go into Spybot > Immunize.
Scroll down to the bottom of the right hand pane and under "Windows" check "Global (Hosts)".
Click the "Immunize" button at the top of the right pane (the button with large green plus sign)?

Since I already have the old hosts from 9/5/2007 update. Do I need to remove the old list and readd? Or can I just update with the old hosts update?

You do not have to remove the old list first although I normally do.

Yes, those old hostfiles certainly do accumulate (since as far as I can tell the 'fresh' one simply asserts its status as hosts file in your Windows dir while the old are renamed with a dot·date-time suffix and a .backup extension is added).

Lol, by the time I got around to clearing most of them out (or you can .zip`em if you wish), I had pretty much proof positive of a *long* run of weekly hostfile updates . . .

Spybot's HOSTS file has been updated every week (nine times) since 2007-09-05.Which update (when using interactive mode) holds the HOSTS updates?

antdude:

I believe that the updates to the HOSTS file are contained in the following file:
C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Includes\Domains.sbs
That file was updated on 2007-11-14 with the following download:
Detection rules: Update - !Most up-to-date detections (805 KB) - 2007-11-14
