Everytime I type something while on the Internet I get pop-ups that start with cpv.feed. Occasionally when I "x" them out it will shut down IE. The following are my HJT and Kaspersky results. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

Not a lot showing in the HJT log but this:
O2 - BHO: Media Holding Enterprises, LLC - {0D39A900-0F3A-4C29-A254-3E65244FDC34} - C:\Program Files\ContextTool\ContextTool-2.dll
http://www.castlecops.com/clsid-33520.html
I hope you never installed that junk on purpose.

I don't see the Kaspersky scan results? It may have shown me more. Let use these two tools for a look.

1) http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< download Smitfraudfix from here and follow ONLY these directions.

Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/processutil/processutil.htm

2) Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.

Download ComboFix from Here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) or Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop
Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Hold on to that Kaspersky scan in case I need it.

Post the C:\rapport.txt and the log from combofix.

Thanks

vandyjr

thx for the reply, PSKelley--you are quick!!! i never intentionally downloaded anything from castlecops, however i was directed to that site while searching for info on my issue. i did do a kaspersky log that will take 3 posts to include--i will hold onto for now. here are the results of the scans:

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback, the link I provided to CastleCops was only to show you the junk, that is surely not where it came from.
http://www.castlecops.com/ <<< they are one of the great malware fighters.

You are running two antivirus programs at the same time and this is not a good thing. They conflict with each other and you will be less safe than if you ran one good program and maintained it properly. Uninstall one, update the one you keep and run a complete system scan, post for me any item that can't be removed, the complete name and pathway.
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2000031316555206
"Microsoft recommends that you have only one anti-virus program installed on your computer."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/12/03/AR2005120300087.html
http://www.smartcomputing.com/editorial/article.asp?article=articles/2003/s1407/38s07/38s07.asp

I will assume from looking you wish to run C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\
yet see what is runing in your services:
O23 - Service: Symantec AntiVirus Definition Watcher (DefWatch) - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Symantec AntiVirus\DefWatch.exe
O23 - Service: SAVRoam (SavRoam) - symantec - C:\Program Files\Symantec AntiVirus\SavRoam.exe G
O23 - Service: Symantec AntiVirus - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Symantec AntiVirus\Rtvscan.exe
If AVG is your antivirus program, uninstall Symantec.

No evidence of Smitfraud, remove Smitfraudfix complete from your computer. combofix did fix something, let's clean the junk I can see in HJT and see what happens:

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
Open Windows Defender, Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
O2 - BHO: Media Holding Enterprises, LLC - {0D39A900-0F3A-4C29-A254-3E65244FDC34} - C:\Program Files\ContextTool\ContextTool-2.dll

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart and let me know how the computer is running.

Thanks

Pskelley--thanks much for the help in removing the feed/pop-up issue. i have worked diligently on getting rid of symantec antivirus. tried traditional add/remove program route. keep getting "Error 1316: A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C:\windows\installer\symantecantivirus.msi." then i went into the symantec folders in the program folders and manually deleted all the files. Everytime I right click and try to delete something the windows installer pops up and tries to configure/install symantec antivirus. i went to symantec's website and used the norton removal program with no success. are the two antivirus systems really competing or do i have one red-headed stepchild that won't go fully away. how do i ride this little pest....permanently.

One of the reason I will not use their software, difficulties removing it. If you tried the removal tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039?Open&src=&docid=2001092114452606&nsf=nav.nsf&view=docid&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=
I have nothing else to offer. Let's disable the services at least:
http://www.pcnineoneone.com/training_videos/computer_speed_video6.html
(only use the tut at this point to orientate you for disabling the Symantec Services, I don't necessarily agree with all of the advice they give)

Here are the services to disable:
Symantec AntiVirus Definition Watcher
SAVRoam
Symantec AntiVirus

Once disabled, restart and they should be gone from the next HJT log.
Once you have stopped those services you should be able to delete this folder:
C:\Program Files\Symantec AntiVirus\

Thanks
