SmitFraudC

Hi I was recently infected with SmitFraud C. and a pop up window opens and says your privacy is in danger with a red background, a window opens says that I have been affected with Worm.Netsky and ie keeps opening with popups with spyware removal ads. I I have tried using spybot under safe mode and my computer will be fine in for a couple of hours, but than those things pop up again. Can any one help me with this.

Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Thanks for the feedback, Smitfraudfix found quite a bit of infection including this:

Clean:
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Optional:
To restore Trusted and Restricted site zone, select 3 and hit Enter.
You will be prompted: Restore Trusted Zone ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to delete trusted zone.
Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

Post the C:\rapport.txt and a new HJT log, include some feedback about performance.

1) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

2) We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
Open Windows Defender, Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

3) AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield
- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

5) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.

Restart the computer, Run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

Then post it here along with a new HJT log and some feedback.

Hey sorry for the long wait but the kaspersky scan took 2 hours, my computer was extremely slow in the beginning and it took even longer to startup than last time.
C:\Program Files\Seagate\ is a program for my seagate free agent pro external hard drive. I got rid of both C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe. There was alot of viruses found in the kaspersky scan. The kaspersky scan log is a very long list and I do not know how I should edit it or do you want to see the long list?

Much of what Kaspersky reports is not malware, often the infected items are in backups, quarantines and infected System Restore files, but the only way I will know is if you post it. It should only take a couple of posts.

A slow computer can be many things beside malware. Once we know the malware is gone, and that is not causing it, I will have other suggestion to enhance performance.
In preparation for that, I have a couple of quests.

Windows Defender is a good program that runs in realtime and the price is right, good choice.

I do not own IS3, I only have the free version of avg 7.5 and Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007. I do have Norton but I don't know if its as good as avg 7.5. I had to redo the scan because I thought I saved it, but I think I clicked on the wrong button or something. sorry for the long wait.

I would keep Windows Defender

IS3 <<< never used it, once the trial is over I suggest you uninstall it.
AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 <<< once the trial is over, updates are available free and you can keep it as an on demand scanner but it uses a load of resources and should NOT be running. Either turn it totally off or uninstall it.
Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007 <<< not sure how to advise you, I use the version before which only runs on demand, uses a little drive space and no resources if I don't run it. In the past I always suggested it as well as Spybot, but I wonder if both are needed. You might try turning it off to see if that significately effects performance, if it does perhaps uninstall it.

Thank you for helping me! My computer is now running smoothly and my computer is not running slowly anymore. :laugh: I uninstalled all the old java and installed the new one. I deleted all my temporary files and deleted the system restore files and created a new restore point. I will do a scan later today just to make sure everything is gone.
