hi,
still need help? first disable spybots tea timer if running so we can use hjt:

1. Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
2. If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
3. On the left hand side, Click on Tools
4. Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
5. Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
6. Restart your computer.

start HJT, click the "Scan" button. check the items below, close any open windows, then click "Fixed checked"

note: you may not find these after you did the online scan:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Host Process] C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\svchost.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [58102dc7] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\slnslryj.dll",b
----------------------------
i suggest a 2nd anti-malware app to go along with spybot: only get one.

http://www.superantispyware.com/

or

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/avg-anti-spyware-free/lng/us/tpl/v5

is your antivirus up to date?

repeat the online scan also, dont worry about posting the results.

hi shelf life,

I disabled tea timer and re-ran hjt below. Can you tell if I'm still infected by the log?

I've been running lavasoft ad-aware but that proved to be useless against the virus. Should I de-install ad-aware?

For antivirus, I'm running McAfee VirusScan Enterprise Version 8.

Thanks for your help!

hi,

Should I de-install ad-aware?

no, keep it and spybot. they are both really for malware, while your antivirus covers different threats.

Can you tell if I'm still infected by the log still 2 items left

lets do this:

start hjt, click on "main menu" click on "open the misc tools section", then "delete a file on reboot"
in the File Name window,

copy/paste in: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ipjqpqmc.dll

and click open at the prompt to reboot select yes.

after the restart do the same, copying/pasting in this:
C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\svchost.exe

after the restart rescan and post a new hjt log.
your antivirus is up to date?

Below is hjt log after recommended deletion of 2 files.

Below hjt log, I included Kaspersky log header info in case thats helpful. As you'll see, the log says I have over 44k infected objects.

McAfee is up to date and updated automatically at 5am daily.

Thanks for your help shelf life.

hi pyrate888,

i have a change of course. first i didnt notice the amount of infected files from your online scan until another member pointed it out to me:

Number of infected objects: 44263

do to the number of infected files it looks like a virus that attaches itself to other files, like .exe, .dll, etc.
while it may be possible to clean it up the chance of leaving behind a damaged .exe or .dll file is possible. one damaged file or two could cause more problems down the road. the virus no doubt can also infect any second hard drive and also usb flash media as well as spread to other computers via usb flash media.
best bet: reformat your harddrive(s)

I think I understand shelf life. By reformatting, will I lose the current data on my hard drive? What I'm most concerned about is losing photos of my daughter. Is there a way I can copy the photos from this computer to another without infection?

I appreciate your efforts.

hi pyrate888,

By reformatting, will I lose the current data on my hard drive yes you will.

I can copy the photos from this computer to another without infection
i have no idea if the virus/worm infects .jpegs or other common photo extensions.

i see you have a lightscribe burner so you could try burning the photos to removable media, then on the other computer pop in the media and launch the antivirus on that computer and scan the media first. most antivirus scanners can be selected to just scan certain areas. most likely it would be the d or e drive.

or if you opened My computer on the desktop you could right click on the drive and select scan with...(your AV)

make sure the other computer has up to date antivirus on it.

i would unplug the infected computer from the internet and any routers or gateways if you have one.
is your antivirus Mcafee flagging anything on the computer?
