View Full Version : Google Searches are Re-Directed...

My "Thanks" to you all for being here...!

My Problem: Google searches are re-directed to shedalight and other unwanted sites.

Note: I've recently downloaded Xvid, MainConcept, and other codecs. I also downloaded, then removed BitTorrent (if this info matters).

I ran Spybot and it found and removed Zlob.DNSChanger.

Here is my HJT 2.0.2 Log:

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post a fresh HijackThis log, along with the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt

hi Tholepin,

other codecs. I also downloaded, then removed BitTorrent

there are many many good codec packages. never install anything at the request of some website.
bittorrent is ok also, the p2p app is only the vector for the malware, not the cause. this is assuming you got it from the legit website:
http://www.nutnworks.com/SafeHex/file_sharing.htm
------------------------------------

looks like you still have a "bad" dns lookup.

do this:

The problem seems to be solved...!

My Google searches now go where intended.

Again, thanks to you all. I could have never done this on my own.

I will monitor this thread in case you have any other issues or recommendations with the logs I've posted.

The Good News:
Google searches in my box computer continue to go where intended. Thanks for your help in fixing that!

The Bad News:
The browsers in my box computer (Firefox and IE) now lose the internet connection about once each day. This has been going on since I ran "Fixwareout". (Of course I do not know if running Fixwareout had anything to do with it!) I have to re-start the computer to "re-set" the connection. I know the internet connection is good because I have a laptop computer connected to my D-Link router that logs onto the internet showing the connection is good. (The box computer is hard-wired to the router, the laptop is wireless; if that matters.)

Have you any suggestions?

hi Tholepin,

the only problem i know of concerning fixwareout and a lack of internet connection is a possible change in the dns server settings in network connections. see if this helps.

Please go to Start -> Control Panel, and choose Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and left click on properties. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio button that says Obtain DNS servers automatically. Click OK twice, and restart your computer.
