View Full Version : Obfuscated.kp + variants
Hi guys, much the same as many of the others. Started with the apparent successful removal of Virtumonde (Live pc icons on the desktop) Now it's the screaming little malware Obfuscated.kp and a couple of others that refuse to budge.
Have run AVG, SpyBoy, Vundofix, VirtumundoBegone, AdAware, ATF-Cleaner mostly while in Safe mode.

You're infected.
Please remove any old versions of VundoFix.
Rename HijackThis.exe to skanneri.exe by doing the following;
Navigate here using Windows Explorer (windows button + E) or My Computer Local Disk C: C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis
Right-click on the HijackThis.exe
Choose from the pull-down menu; "Rename"
And now Rename HijackThis.exe to skanneri.exe
Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Please do a new online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner (http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner)
Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner
You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
Now click on Scan Settings
In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
Scan Options:
Scan Archives
Scan Mail Bases
Click OK
Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
This will program will start and scan your system.
The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
Now click on the Save as Text button:
Save the file to your desktop.
Copy and paste that information in your next post along with a fresh HijackThis log

followed the instructions to the letter and got as far as
C:\Windows\system32\mllih.dll
it won't delete. Keep getting "being used by another application" message.
Even tried deleting the registry value for it as well.
ran hijackthis several times as well but it won't budge.
So I ran the ATF cleaner and did a restart and now the
PC freezes at startup just as it's about to show the windows logo. black screen with mouse pointer is all I can get. any ideas ?

won't boot from Vista dvd either - gets to the same point and freezes.
I think I may have to add another HDD, load that with XP and format the original HDD. Vista has been nothing but trouble.

Hello. Ok that's bad.
Even tried deleting the registry value for it as well.Ok this is most likely the step that caused this problem. The vundo's value needs to be replaced with the default one - you shouldn't remove the whole value.

I haven't formatted the hdd yet so I might try that.
