View Full Version : Search engines hijaked (Zlob.DNSChanger?)
Hythloday
2007-11-23, 00:30
Hello
I hope someone here will be able to help me.
When using Google or other search engines (ask, msn) in IE or Firefox clicking the first result redirects me to another, highly suspicious, search engine. Netscape Navigator 9 seems to be unaffected.
I think I have done everything in the "BEFORE you POST" thread.
Zlob.DNSChanger reappears in Spybot no matter how many times I fix it so I guess that this may be the problem.
Yours hopefully, :)

Thanks for returning your information, glad to be able to help.
http://whois.domaintools.com/85.255.113.204 <<< there's your lowlife hacker if you wish to see.
1) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.
2) TeaTimer will block changes we must make, use these instruction to turn it off until we are done.
http://russelltexas.com/malware/teatimer.htm
3) We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
Open Windows Defender, Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.
4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =

That all went smoothly I think.
Who would have suspected the UkrTeleGroup of such dastardly exploits?;):)

Looks like they are still sticking around too, let's run Fixwarewout again.
Thanks to LonnyBJones and anyone else who helped with this fix.
Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe
Save it to your Desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log in the forum please.
(save the reports until you finish)
Make sure Windows Defender and TeaTimer are both disabled according to earlier instructions.
Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank
O2 - BHO: SSVHelper Class - {761497BB-D6F0-462C-B6EB-D4DAF1D92D43} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\ssv.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"
Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
Post the Fixwareout report and a new HJT log.
Thanks
Hythloday

Thanks...that's a clean HJT log:bigthumb: How is the computer running? I suppose there is no reason to run Kaspersky since the last scan was clean, what don't you do this. Update both Windows Defender and Avast and run them both doing a full system scan, let me know about any issues you can't resolve.
Thanks

:2thumb:
Everything seems to work as normal now.
I will run the scans as you suggest.
Thanks for the help, I am immensely grateful (I will certainly be donating to keep this project going).

Wow!
I thought I was reasonably well protected spyware wise, but having sifted through that information there was quite a lot more I was able to do, quickly and simply.
Thanks again!
