I have been having problems with my computer, but no virus has been detected. I can't download anything new and I can't open .pdf links.

When I ran Spybot I got this registry line:

Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter_disabled

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wscsvc\Start!=W=2

Can anyone tell me if this is connected to my problem, or if not not, what it means? and what to do about it?

It means that the Windows Security Center is not set up to run on system start. The Windows Security Center monitors which antivirus (and since Vista antispyware) applications are running, whether they are running at all, if they're up-to-date and such stuff.

If WSC is disalbed, that hints at least at malware that doesn't want you to see that it might have disabled some of your security applications. Of course, it might be that you have disabled the WSC by intention?

I don't believe I have disabled any on purpose. Where would I check?

Hello,

To start the "Security Center" service, use these steps:

* Click Start, Run and type Services.msc
* Double-click "Security Center" service from the listing
* Set the startup type of the service to "Automatic"
* Start the service by clicking the "Start" button in that applet.

Best regards
