Afternoon,

Think I've got this right (I have read the "Read this before proceeding" - but if I've got any part of it wrong - please accept my apologies)

Machine XP Pro SP2
WU - up to date
NAVCE - installed and up to date - picking up assorted stuff (Duntek etc - all getting caught and quarantined)
Windows Defender: Virtumonde mainly - but it seems to be downloading other "stuff" like "FotoMoto".
Spybot: Version 1.4 - up to date - picking up VirtuMonde

Between NAVCE & Windows Defender - everything is being caught & removed - but I must be missing something as it keeps readding itself.

Hello ivansp

Welcome to Safer Networking.

Please read Before You Post (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)
All advice given by anyone volunteering here, is taken at own risk.
While best efforts are made to assist in removing infections safely, unexpected stuff can happen

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows including this one, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

This is your downloader
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [runner1] C:\WINDOWS\mrofinu572.exe 61A847B5BBF728173599284503996897C881250221C8670836AC4FA7C8833201749139

O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-21-3420517510-1740095586-2638681642-1135\..\Run: [DDC] C:\DOCUME~1\alan\LOCALS~1\Temp\akcwmjcn.exe (User 'alan')

C:\WINDOWS\mrofinu572.exe <-- Delete this file

Please download ATF Cleaner (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1) by Atribune to your desktop.

This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up

Download ComboFix from Here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) or Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post the Combofix log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

This is important, do this before you post a HJT log
C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe<-- Right click on Hijackthis.exe ( looks like a man with a spyglass )and rename it to Ivan.exe

Let me see the Combofix log and a new HJT log renamed to Ivan.exe

Hi Ken

thanks for your assistance - logs to be posted below.

Couple of things.

I couldn't find the actual exe file anywhere (even with a full system, all hidden files etc search) - possibly the NAVCE had quarantined it / Windows Defender had removed it.

The apps need to run as Administrator - I guessed this - but had to re-reun the second part of the combofix from a suitable command shell.

The Trojan Vundo was one of the delights that had been downloaded - so I was also able to remove it and it's BHO hooks.

Hello,

Log is looking good, just a little more to do.

Open Notepad and copy all the text inside the quote box by highlighting it all and pressing CTRL C on your keyboard, then paste it into Notepad

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\byxwutu.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mcrh.tmp

FileLook::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msxml3a.dll

Folder::
C:\VundoFix Backups

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{8772b006-bab4-4af7-a403-0d071e60dd50}]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon\notify\byxwutu]

Save this as CFScript to your desktop.

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.
