I read the forum "before you post". I had already done a system restore (2). U I believe everything started on November 13 when I downloaded LimeWire. I downloaded Roxio Media 8 hoping it would help me read an ISO image. It turns out I needed Roxio EasyCD software. It is here that I think I got something on my computer. I am not sure of the date, but I know if was after November 13 and probably a few days after that. I had been using Norton 2007. I downloaded spybot and ad-aware and none of the three got rid of this ad.yieldmanager that is hounding me particularly with ebay. I might have other problems, but I have not seen anything verifying anymore. During this period I also downloaded Xpcodec.exe. I guess I could have got it here also, but I don’t think so.

Thanks. Kevin

Hello Kevin

Welcome to Safer Networking.

Please read Before YouPost (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)
That said, All advice given by anyone volunteering here, is taken at own risk.
While best efforts are made to assist in removing infections safely, unexpected stuff can happen.

Please reply to this thread only by using the Submit Reply and not start a New Topic or your posts will be all over the forum and we won't be able to keep track of you.

Your log basically looks ok, the bad entries that Kaspersky found where in temp folders, so lets do a few things.

Please download ATF Cleaner (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1) by Atribune to your desktop.

This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up

Please download SuperAntiSpyware (http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfi...ANTISPYWAREFREE)
Install the program

Run SuperAntiSpyware and click: Check for updates
Once the update is finished, on the main screen, click: Scan your computer
Check: Perform Complete Scan
Click Next to start the scan.

Superantispyware scans the computer, and when finished, lists all the infections found.
Make sure everything found has a check next to it, and press: Next
Then, click Finish

It is possible that the program asks to reboot in order to delete some files.

Obtain the SuperAntiSpyware log as follows:
Click: Preferences
Click the Statistics/Logs tab
Under Scanner Logs, double-click SuperAntiSpyware Scan Log
It opens in your default text editor (such as Notepad)

Please provide the SuperAntiSpyware log in your reply, as well as a new HijackThis log.

Hi Kevin,

We need to disable the Tea Timer in Spybot Search and Destroy as to not interfere with the fix. You can re enable this if you wish after we are done.

Open Spybot and go to Mode> Advanced Mode> Tools> Resident and take the checkmark out of Tea Timer
Reboot your system for this to take effect

Please download OTMoveIt (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/oldtimer/OTMoveIt.exe) by OldTimer.

Save it to your desktop.
Please double-click OTMoveIt.exe to run it.
Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\KEVIN\LOCAL SETTINGS\TEMP\AUPD.EXE

Return to OTMoveIt, right click on the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be moved" window and choose Paste.
Click the red Moveit! button.
Copy everything on the Results window to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it on your next reply.
Close OTMoveIt

If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
It should have an icon next to it:
http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/javaicon.jpg
Select it and click Remove.
Reboot your system.
Then go to the Sun Microsystems (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp) and install the update
Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 3 <--This is what you need to download and install.
If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp)
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future

Let me see the OtMoveIt log please. The rest of your HJT log looks fine:bigthumb:

Ken, here is the OTmoveIt file. Note that it did not copy. However, I may have been the cause of it. While I was waiting for your second round, I added some software to my computer. Remember when I told you I had already performed a system restore to the date prior to the installation of limewire? Well, I went and installed the software that still showed in my windows explorer, but did not load/recognized by my computer because I the restore took out the installs (I state as a laymen!!!). Anyway, I reinstalled Limewire, HP update 9, XP codec. I ran Superantispyware again. It found 5 Adware objects that I removed. I have included below the OTMoveit information below the current HJT that was perfomed after my software loads and the last things you told me to perform including the replacement of Java. I hope I did not screw things up. If I have, I have stopped everything and will wait for your response. You have been very helpful and I thank you in advance. BTW, I need your opinion: Should I install this IE7 or just stay with IE6. I am not going to VIsta and I am not technical enough for other operating systems. I also had a second question. I downloaded an ISO image that I tried to convert (I will get it done when this is all over). Confirm that I can do this in XP.

Thanks

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

A couple of points.

SAS removed that bad entry that Kaspersky found, OtMoveIt was just a doublecheck.

Limewire itself is safe but what it can bring can be a nightmare.
http://redtape.msnbc.com/2007/11/id-thieves-new-.html#posts

IE7 is more secure than IE6 so I would upgrade it, my self, I use Firefox almost a 100% of the time and you can use both browsers.
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

I did an ISO image in XP with Roxio without a hitch.

You have a clean HJT log :bigthumb:

How are things running now??

So far, so good. I think I have blocked something in ebay through spybot that is artificially blocking adware url's. This is causing the browser to go to adware sites but does not go all the way through. I have not been able to find in spybot where I can see what I have previously blocked so that I can release and let the fixed computer do its thing. Ebay is functioning nomally.

I am a corporate/charter Lear Jet pilot. Although I travel all over, I have not gotten into your world but hope to someday. I never know where I go. However, I just found out I will be in Boston Monday/Tuesday. Maybe someday CT. Good basketball team though. I live in Memphis. Be careful, we may win it this year!

Thanks for your help. I tried to keep your address for future questions but you have limited your address. I guess I would also. Good luck to you.

Pilot,

Been around a lot of pilots, our best friend flies helicopters out of Tamiami Airport in Miami. Been up with him quite a few times.

I just found out I will be in Boston Monday/Tuesday. Bring your snowshoes, we may be getting some.

You can try a few things to straighten out your searches with your browser.

Next Go start> Run type cmd and hit OK
Type in ipconfig /flushdns then hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)
Type exit hit enter

Close any instance of Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer.

Go to Start> Control Panel> Internet Options . You shoud be on the General Tab
Delete Cookies
Delete Files > and offline content as well
Then go to the Programs Tab and Reset Web Settings

Download the HostsXpert 4.2.0.0. - Hosts File Manager (http://www.funkytoad.com/download/HostsXpert.zip).

Unzip HostsXpert 4.2.0.0 - Hosts File Manager to a convenient folder such as C:\HostsXpert
Click HostsXpert.exe to Run HostsXpert 3.7 - Hosts File Manager from its new home
Click "Make Hosts Writable?" in the upper right corner (If available).
Click Restore Microsoft's Hosts file and then click OK.
Click the X to exit the program.
Note: If you were using a custom Hosts file you will need to replace any of those entries yourself.

Let me know if this helped.????

Snow, anybody can land a plane in good weather!! Helicopters, snow is no problem, but that Jesus bolt. . . .I don't know!!

Thanks, appears to have helped. It is the non-microsoft hosts I will have to find particularly spybot. I downloaded Mozilla and will upgrade to IE7. Thanks again.

Your very welcome Kevin.

Stay well,
Ken
