Please help me with my malware(outerinfo)

I'm having some adware issues. I keep getting these pop-ups from an Outerinfo.com server. But i tried to remove it by following some instructions that i found on this website, however the problem remains. Not to mention that my computer is running slower than usual. These are the instructions i followed (i was not able to get a scan report from AVG in safe-mode), Which are then followed by my computer's information (there was not enough space for the kaspersky report, but i do have it):


Download ATF Cleaner (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1) by Atribune to your desktop.
Do NOT run yet.

Make your hidden files visible:
Go to My Computer
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
Click the View tab.
Checkmark the "Display the contents of system folders"
Under the Hidden files and folders select "Show hidden files and folders"
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"
Click Apply and then the OK and close My Computer.

Open Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs -> Remove all the of the following or similar entries if found:

Oin
Yazzle by Oin
Purityscan by Oin
Snowballwars by Oin
or anything similar with Oin or Outerinfo in it.
Zolero
Tizzletalk
MediaTickets
Cowabanga

and any other programs you didn't install or don't recognize - if your not sure please ask first

Download and run this uninstaller:
http://www.outerinfo.com/OiUninstaller.exe

Run HijackThis, click Do a system scan only, and check the box next to each of these entries if still present. Close all other windows and press Fix checked. If something isn't there, please continue with the next entry in the list. Fix the O6 entry if you haven't locked Internet Explorer settings with eg Spybot S&D or SpywareBlaster.

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present

Restart your computer to the safe mode:
Restart your computer
Start tapping the F8 key when the computer restarts.
When the start menu opens, choose Safe mode
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

Go to the My Computer and delete the following files (if present):
C:\Documents and Settings\Mujtaba\Start Menu\Programs\Games\Cowabanga.lnk
C:\Avant Browser\Skins\1.exe

Go to the My Computer and delete the following folders (if present):
C:\Program Files\Cowabanga

Run ATF Cleaner Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Close ALL open Windows / Programs / Folders. Please start AVG Anti-Spyware and run a full scan.
Click on Scanner on the toolbar.
Click on the Settings tab.
Under How to act?
Click on Recommended Action and choose Quarantine from the popup menu.
Under How to scan?
All checkboxes should be ticked.
Under Possibly unwanted software:
All checkboxes should be ticked.
Under Reports:
Select Automatically generate report after every scan and uncheck Only if threats were found.
Under What to scan?
Select Scan every file.
Click on the Scan tab.
Click on Complete System Scan to start the scan process.
Let the program scan the machine.
When the scan has finished, follow the instructions below.
IMPORTANT : Don't click on the "Save Scan Report" button before you did hit the "Apply all Actions" button.
Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine (1), if not click on the link and choose Quarantine from the popup menu. (2)
At the bottom of the window click on the Apply all Actions button. (3)

When done, click the Save Scan Report button. (4)
Click the Save Report as button.
Save the report to your Desktop.
Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.
Reboot in Normal Mode.

AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the combofix log and a new HJT log.

Thanks for returning your information, let's clean up a little and see what happens.

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) Anti-Spyware 7.5\guard.exe <<< make sure this program is still turned off.

4) TeaTimer will block changes we must make, use these instruction to turn it off until we are done.

5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

7) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log and some feedback.

Tried to follow instructions but files were gone

I ran hjt and fixed those three items, however when i went to explore for those two folders i could not find them. I ran atf cleaner then rebooted and made this log:

Well if this whole thing is done, i still have some Qs

If this problem is fixed i was wondering if you could in any way give me some advice.
1. since this adware thing has started on my computer, it has been running slow as crap. I believe this to be because i currently have 4 anti-virus programs (at least). While not all are running (i think) i was hoping you could tell me which ones to keep.
Here they are:
McAfee- I like alot of its features and paid a hefty price for it, so there fore i like it. But it also let this adware on my computer.
Spybot S&D- Free but dont understand what a good registry change is from a bad one (how do i find out, is there a website?)
Spyware Doctor- Just paid $30 for it and it caught more than McAfee
AVG- I'm pretty certain this is not even running but is still installed.

If these are not the cause of my slowness issue and you know what is, I would greatly appreciate it if you could tell me what to do. If not i understand and am grateful for you help that you've already given.

As far as feedback do you mean in this message or is there something else i need to do. This site is new to me... But i really have appreciated the time you took.
 
Looking at this HJT log first, then I will try to answer your questions:

First, let me say your HJT appears to be clean of malware this scan. Understand this does not mean the computer is clean, our Kaspersky scan will tell us if anything hides from HJT which is a small tool that can not show everything.
Next, be aware that malware is just one thing that can cause a computer is slow, there are many and it is usually poor maintenance proceedures. I will post instructions for cleaning before we finish, let look at your questions now.

The programs you mention are not all antivirus programs but have varied duties, I will post information from experts also before we finish, but a little feedback from me.

McAfee: this is your antivirus program, they are only as good as how you use them and no av program will protect you 100% by itself. Good safe surfing proceedure plays a large part, see how easy it is to get infected, and your AV can not protect you here:

The rest are all Spyware programs and NOT antivirus programs:
Spybot S&D: I suggest you keep it, update it often and run it once or twice a month. It is very important it is updated and immunized against the new treats you download updates for. Here are tutorials that will help.

Spybot uses none of your resources unless it is running.

AVG: I am talking now about this program >> D:\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\guard.exe
It's a good program, but unless you purchase it, it gives you no benefit once the trail period is over and should be turned completely off or uninstalled.

Spyware Doctor: A good program also, I do not use it and do not suggest anything but freeware programs. Since you paid for it, I would keep it at least until it expires.

You also need a good firewall, if McAfee provides your firewall just be sure the Service Pack 2 firewall is turned off.

Start > Control Panel > Security Center
The firewall should be OFF and the other two items ON. You control the settings by clicking the link next to "Windows Firewall" In my case it is OFF because I run Zone Alarm.

Thank you for all of your help, but one more Q

So what you are saying is that i can run McAfee Antivirus w/ all features going (which has a firewall and a live protection feature) and Spybot s&d (full features running) and the two will not have any kind of conflict that would slow or leave my computer vulnerable?

Then my other question is this: If there is any conflict i would keep McAfee running completely and only use Spybot as a scanner. Would that be alright?

Finally, I am still wondering where i'm supposed to leave feedback. You have been extremely helpful.
 
Well, trying to choose my words carefully as one who just dumped McAfee because of all the stuff in the new version, and the fact it uses a load of resources and slows the computer considerably as far as comments from folks who do use it, all I can say is that Spybot S&D should have nothing to do with the functions McAfee provides.
