View Full Version : Newbie needs help removing trojans!!!

Hi, im a new girl here and im very worried about my pc. my mcafee originally discovered a trojan called zapchast in my c:/a.bat. it seems to show up everytime i start my pc so i removed mcafee and got windows live onecare in hope that it can remove the trojan. unfortunately onecare found a trojan called BAT/Secoff.A, and spybot found Vanbot. right now, my system restore, windows media player, and aim wont respond...i think the trojans are messing up with my pc. i ran a hijack this log and i would definitely appreciate any help to clean up my system. thank you so much ^_^

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you have a very bad trojans on your computer.

While it may not be exactly this trojan, this will give you an idea of how bad these backdoor trojans are:

You also have this trojan: C:\WINDOWS\Config\lsass.exe which is likely:
Downloader/Dropper, Proxy, Backdoor, PWStealer Trojans:

A Backdoor is a software program that gives an attacker unauthorized access to a machine and the means for remotely controlling the machine without the user's knowledge. A Backdoor compromises system integrity by making changes to the system that allow it to by used by the attacker for malicious purposes unknown to the user.

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.
This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files
I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.
Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. oh no! does that means my pc is seriously infected? i cant manually remove those backdoor trojans? if the best course of action would be to reformat my pc then what is your advice in doing that? like backup everything i have in dvds (i have a 500gb capacity of stuff ^_^;;) should i use the Windows Clean Install program or my Hp Recovery Tool? i am sad but thank you so much for your help.
