Strange executables on desktop [Archive]

Hello,
After returning from a trip while someone watched my house (and used my pc) I noticed the following executable files on my desktop:

handle.exe, nircmd.exe, ntp.exe, ntrights.exe, restartit.exe, sc.exe, swreg.exe

I googled the filenames and it looks like these could allow a remote pc to take over mine. I deleted the files (although they're still in my recycle bin), ran Kaspersky, rebooted into safe mode and ran S&D 1.5, then ran HJT 2.0.2. Can you please let me know if my pc has been compromised?

System looks clean. However, you should get rid of vulnerable MS Java and install latest version of Sun Java. Instructions here (http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/howto-21.html)

Ok, I removed MS Java and installed the latest Sun Java - thanks.

Do you have any idea what the executables I deleted from my desktop were about? I'm still a little nervous about that.

Those are handy administrator tools. You might want to ask from the person who used the computer while you were on trip why he/she had downloaded them. :)

Ok, but they're not very computer literate and I'm certain they were not doing high-level administrator type tune-up/maintenance stuff. However, (unfortunately) the account they were logged into had administrator privileges and looking at the browser history they had visited porn sites. In the future we plan to lock down our computers and tell people to bring their own laptops if they want to get online. I'm wondering if a site visited might have tried to con the person to download the executables for a future attack?? Really I just want to make sure the system is now clean.

I believe they may have gotten infected, asked for help on some forum (like this) and got some instructions for cleaning. Those files are namely used by some fixing tools. Anyway, as I said the system should be clean now :)

This is probably at least the 3rd time we've come back from vacation while someone's watched our house, we've let them use the computer and then I have to try and fix whatever's wrong with the system. Each time I used this forum to clean things up (thankyou thankyou thankyou!!) so maybe those files were leftover from my previous cleanings?? (I doubt the persons in question would have the know-how to realize there was a problem, find a forum such as this and attempt cleaning)

Anyway, as I said, in the future our PCs will be locked down so (hopefully) I won't be back.
