and probably a Vundo infection also. Since you posted an out of date HJT log I will have to assume you never read the directions. Posted above and PINNED to the top of the forum are those directons, if you want help please do this.

1) Read and follow the directions.

2) Update your HJT log and then rename Hijackthis.exe, call it hookem79.exe, that will work. After a restart we should see the Vundo infection if present.

3) Do not run and post the Kaspersky scan results until I request them.

Post a new HJT log.

i have had trouble starting up my computer it kept shutting off as soon as i opened up ie it would shut down . thanks for the help i will wait thanks again

I'm not seeing a Vundo infection, let's see if we can kill this junk.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune

Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {AD5C7F80-5AE4-4A86-81DC-246190697E40} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\dpwsockq.dll

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart and post a new HJT log and some feedback.

I restarted and my IE is doing good not shutting down or redirecting me to other web sites the only thing i noticed was a triangle poppped up on my task bar saying i needed to do a system scan because of male walware infections i think that is an adware how do i remove that . thanks for all your help !!!!!!

You sure you followed those directions, this item:

Is still in your HJT log? Give those instructions a try again, and then after you remove the line with HJT, do this.

Start Hijackthis
Click on the Config button
Click on the Misc Tools button
Click on the button labeled Delete a file on reboot...
A new window will open asking you to select the file that you would like to delete on reboot. Navigate to the file: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\dpwsockq.dll and click on it once, and then click on the Open button.
You will now be asked if you would like to reboot your computer to delete the file. Click on the Yes button if you would like to reboot now.

Then just to be sure, navigate to that file and make sure it is gone. You will need all files and folders enabled:

I followed the instructions and i still see it on here
i did sys scan only check by line click fix and then run atf also go to delete at reboot from hjt but i still see it what could be keeping it there.

I understand it can be tough to remove some of this junk. I suggest you boot the computer to safe mode and run Killbox and/or "Delete on Reboot" there.

You might also ask a friend with more computer knowledge to give you a hand. Hard for me to give you more than the information I have from where I am located.

I have one more tool we can try that is very powerful, I will wait to see if you can delete the file in safe mode.

You must extract avenger.exe to your Desktop, before you run it.
The Avenger must be run from a user account with administrator privileges,
and ONLY works on Windows 2000 and XP, and only on 32-bit versions!

Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard.

The above script is for this user only, if you need help please start your own thread.

Start the Avenger.
Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
Click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script".
Paste the entire text in into this window.
Click done, now click on the Green Light
Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
Your computer should reboot, and briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.

After the restart, it will create a log file that should open.
This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
Paste the contents of the file into your reply along with a fresh HJT log.

Also: Avenger has made backups of all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, located at C:\avenger\backup.zip.

When I followed the directions posted for downloading this tool, it was installed here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Philip Skelley\Desktop\avenger

Would you delete the copy you have, then make sure the directions are followd exactly.
You must extract avenger.exe to your Desktop, before you run it.
The Avenger must be run from a user account with administrator privileges,
and ONLY works on Windows 2000 and XP, and only on 32-bit versions!

The tool will be running from the same place mine is, then try it again.
