View Full Version : major system problems win32.agent.eus

So, long story short...i let a close friend borrow my laptop while his computer was down (wonder why) and it's now severely infected.

My control panel has completely disappeared, my admin rights have been removed, and even though i'm connected to the internet firefox or ie will not work. Thankfully I can connect to aim and was able to transfer the Hijackme logs through that.

Aside from the above symptoms there are various windows-esque popups saying malware has been found, etc. The Kaspersky log is wayyy to long to post i think, but it keeps saying it finds win32.agent.eus.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated. The log is below, let me know if anything else is needed.

Hi lemmy and welcome to Safer Networking Forums :)

Click here (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/HJTInstall.exe) to download HJTInstall.exe
Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Sorry about that!!! Also, another symptom that i failed to mention was that when connected to the internet it appears that spam email messages pop up and are being sent. Systemac says "Scanning message.....Message Sent". Thanks again everyone!!

Hi

Are both Kaspersky Antivirus and Symantec AntiVirus up-to-date?

If so, you should uninstall one of them.

Only one antivirus should be active/computer.

Rename HijackThis.exe to lemmy.exe and post back a fresh HijackThis log, please :)

Hi there,

I actually just installed Kaspersky when i realized there was a virus...I don't even remember when Systemec was installed.

Here is the updated log (renamed to lemmy.exe). Thanks so much for the help, greatly appreciated.

Hi

Thanks for info.

Then you will have to choose which one of them you keep, Kaspersky or Symantec.

1. Download combofix from one of these links and save it to Desktop:
Link1 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link2 (http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe)
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

Post:

- a fresh HijackThis log
- combofix report

Alright, combo fix has been run...but now I'm running into a more serious problem. My comptuer has basically become non-responsive. It's as almost I can't do anything. It took about 45 minutes for the Task Manager to open, and I'm unable to log onto the internet or AIM as neither program will respond when I attempt to open it. Right click does nothing more then make the hour glass cursor spin for a few minutes.

I'm stuck here guys, I tried for about 3 hours last night to transfer the log files over to this computer but had 0 luck. I just attempted to close AIM, which was not responding, and the computer is as good as frozen now.

Let me know if you have any suggestions...BTW, system resources are normal, the CPU is running anywhere between 0-55% depending on what i'm clicking on and the ram useage is no higher then 500mb. Hopefully someone has some ideas. THANKS!

Hi

Are there any processes like these running?

findstr, find, sed or swreg

lemmy
2007-12-12, 16:29
Shaba,

None of those processes have been running...are there any other i should be looking for?

Note: I'm unable to double click / load anything from the desktop. Some random program (Malware Alarm) keeps popping up when I start my computer, I managed to shut off the automatic start-up scan, but the program itself still loads on start-up.

Thanks for your continued help. It's much appreciated.

Hi

Then I recommend that you use Last Good Configuration from boot menu, see here (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307852)

Thanks Shaba, I'll go ahead and do that...Any ideas on why it happened / is it still possible to clean the computer up?

Thanks

Shaba
2007-12-12, 19:29
Hi

No idea, sorry.

I've seen sometimes combofix causing problems but those are very rare.

Sure it is possible clean if only we get it working in normal way (with or without combofix).

Quick question, will the Last Known Good Config be the config I had previous to running combo fix? I've restarted the machine a good 15 times sinec combo fix has been run. I probably won't be home until 10:00 US East Standard time, but I'll go ahead and give it a shot when I can.

Thanks again.
