Hello All,

I'm seeking some help for a hijacker/trojan/not-sure-what-else that has infected my system. Spybot detects this pest as CoolWWWSearch along with 3 other variants of CoolWWWSearch. I have posted the initial hijackthis log that I have captured after starting the system in safe mode, running spybot, and deleting everything that it finds and then going back into normal mode and running hijackthis to capture the log. This "problem" seems to operate in complete stealth mode as the symtoms of infection re-appear in normal mode after I have seemingly deleted all of the components by running spybot in safe mode.

There seems to be at least a few parasitic browser helper objects that keep installing themselves as well since Internet Explorer runs extremely slow, and there is a lot of activity in task manager whenever I start a new browser window. Any and all help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hello All,

I believe that I have figured out the problem and have been successful at removing all of CoolWWWSearch from my computer after following a few steps from one of the archived submissions.

I basically installed and ran AboutBuster version 6. It caught all of the CoolWWWSearch components.

I then ran the CWShredder just to be sure, and this caught whatever might have been leftover that wasn't removed by AboutBuster.

I restarted into safe mode and ran Spybot S&D again as well as Ad-Aware and both came up empty.

I then restared back into normal mode and ran Spybot S&D again as well as Ad-Aware and both were clean. I checked the Task Manager and all malicious processes were gone as well. Internet Explorer was back to normal...no more weird search startup pages and popup ads. Also, there doesn't seem to be anything in the background that may be trying to muck with the registry. This was happening quite often during my period of infection.

So now I think I'm totally clean. If you would still like me to post something, just let me know.

Have hijackthis fix
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
Other than that it looks fine, i see no evidence of spyware/maleware :D
