The Waiting Room

You have a Vundo infection which can be hard to remove. This will take some time and unless you are patient, understand how to follow directions and are comfortable working on your computer, you may want to seek local professional help. If you wish to proceed, read and follow the directions carefully.

If your problems have not been resolved, read the directions, remove the unsafe version of HJT:
C:\Documents and Settings\Jeremy Dixon\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\2CVH7378\HiJackThis[1].exe

Download it according to the instructions and post a new HJT log. If your problems are resolved, I would appreciate a quick post telling us so we can close your topic.

Thanks

Please do not quote my instructions, I know what I said. I posted a link to the directions which you have not followed:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
C:\Program Files\HijackThis.exe <<< not the location in the instructions.
You seem to have your own ideas about the way you wish to do things, have at it.
I apologize but unless you intend to read and follow the directions, I have done all I can for you.

Happy Holidays:santa:

Your Kaspersky scan is showing a load of possible infections, read and follow the directions carefully.
You need to keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk can download more.

1) C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery\ <<< delete the contents of the Recovery folder
http://ict.cas.psu.edu/training/howto/util/removespybot.htm#1

2) C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\Quarantine\ <<< delete the contents of that Quarantine folder
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2000041213443506

3) http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< download Smitfraudfix from here and follow ONLY these directions.

Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/processutil/processutil.htm

Post only the C:\rapport.txt

Thanks for posting that report, no evidence of that infection. You may remove Smitfraudfix from your computer.

Follow these directions, the tools will not work unless you do.

1) Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix.

http://vundofix.atribune.org/ <<< tutorial

"Download VundoFix" to your Desktop

http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
When VundoFix opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will attempt run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click
the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot. Vundofix.txt will be on the C:\

(wait until you finish to post reports and logs)

2) Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.

Download ComboFix from Here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) or Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the Vundofix.txt, combofix log and a new HJT log.

Thanks

It wouldn't let me search for the file it says it refers to a location that is unavailable and I double checked to see if all hidden folders are unhiddenThis is your computer? Correct? Please post "word for word" what you are being told.

This is a clean HJT log:bigthumb: are you having malware issues? Let's check for anything hidden with Kaspersky.

Remove combofix, C:\qoobox\quarantine\, Vundofix and the C:\VundoFix Backups from your computer.

Run this online scan using these setting and Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.

Thanks for returning your scan results, let have a look.

C:\Documents and Settings\Jeremy Dixon\install.exe <<< delete that file

C:\Documents and Settings\Jeremy Dixon\keygen.exe <<< delete that file (you realize how dangerous that item is?)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
Note: We do not support the use of illegal Pirated/Warez/Cracked software.

C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\Quarantine\ <<< delete the contents of the quarantine folder

Empty the Recycle Bin on the Desktop

The rest are infected Systenm Restore files, follow these directions to clean them.

MANUAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR SYSTEM RESTORE
Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot

Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

If you followed the directions the next Kaspersky scan will be clean, I do not need to see a clean scan.

Happy Holidays:santa:
