This computer suddenly has problems with programs not running or freezing, os unable to boot, and everything runs extremely slow with pop-up error windows concerning stack file settings, virtual memory problems, etc. OS is Win 98. Have run SuperAntiSpyware, cwshredder, SpyBot, AdAware, miniremoval_coolwebsearch_smartkiller, and Norton but system still seems to run real slow with only 53% of system resource available. I've attached a HiJackThis log and if someone could take a look and advise I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks,

Hello.

As you probably know, WIN98 is no longer a supported operating system, and therefore cannot be updated or patched against vunerablities.

How much RAM does that machine have, Norton is a resource hog. ;)

Some of the startups may not be necessary. You can check here: Startup Programs Database (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/)

Please see: KB293174 at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/293174 and see if it applies.

Best regards.

I'm trying to help my brother-in-law get this old relic of a computer running and didn't even think about it being Win98. I'll follow up on your suggestions and see if I can help somehow and then I recommend he upgrade to xp. Thanks for the help!
