Norton antivirus has been catching Trojan files. I can't run a full scan unless I'm in safe mode and it finds nothing. Adaware removes problems but they come right back. Here is the log from HJT:

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

Chances are very good this is a Vundo infection, so you need to be aware of this:
You have a Vundo infection which can be hard to remove. This will take some time and unless you are patient, understand how to follow directions and are comfortable working on your computer, you may want to seek local professional help. If you wish to proceed, read and follow the directions carefully.

and I also see evidence we may have a Smitfraud infection. If you wish to proceed:

1) The junk will download more, stay offline except when you are troubleshooting until you are clean.

2) I suggest you view this information: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=7344

3) We need to check for the Smitfraud infection first.
http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< download Smitfraudfix from here and follow ONLY these directions.

Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/processutil/processutil.htm

Post only the C:\rapport.txt

Thanks

Thanks for posting that report, no Smitfraud present, delete that tool from your computer.
Please read and follow the directions carefully.

1) See this: http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\ <<< Java is BADLY out of date and likely why you are infected. Download the newest version and uninstall all old versions in Add Remove programs.

2) We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
Open Windows Defender, Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

3) Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix.

http://vundofix.atribune.org/ <<< tutorial

"Download VundoFix" to your Desktop

http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
When VundoFix opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will attempt run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click
the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot. Vundofix.txt will be on the C:\

(wait until you finish to post reports and logs)

4) Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.

Download ComboFix from Here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) or Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the Vundofix.txt, combofix log and a new HJT log.

Thanks

Funny thing I uninstalled the old version of Java and installed the new one. The Vundo fix is still saying I have the old version But when I check I have the new version. I even restarted the computer to make sure.
Here is the Vundo fix report:

VundoFix V6.7.7

Checking Java version...

Java version is 1.4.2.3
Old versions of java are exploitable and should be removed.

Scan started at 5:10:11 PM 12/18/2007

Listing files found while scanning....

Thanks for returning you information and the feedback, you asked:

Funny thing I uninstalled the old version of Java and installed the new oneI think Vundofix remembers the old versions, as long as they have been removed from your computer.

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) Windows Defender disabled please.

4) Open Vundofix by Doubleclicking on it, then point your mouse to the white box above the buttons and right click, then click on Add More Files. When the next window opens, copy and paste the files into the boxes and click on Add File(s), then click on Close Window. Then click Remove Vundo.

(file to add)
C:\WINDOWS\system32\urqqnop.dll

5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {168D6C70-452B-83F8-3764-07FCD90466BF} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\yhemrgk.dll (file missing)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

6) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\{2C7EFC1A-06C1-1033-1227-051114200001}\Update.exe <<< delete that file

7) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart and post a Vundofix report, new HJT log and some feedback.

Thanks

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback, that's a clean HJT log this morning:bigthumb:

Remove (delete) combofix, C:\qoobox\quarantine\, Vundofix and the C:\VundoFix Backups

We still need to clean infected System Restore files so there will be some found, I want to be sure all the bad junk is gone. Please use these settings.

Run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.

Thanks for returning your scan results. Not sure what you are downloading here, but it's infected. It might be one item or three, but delete whatever it is.

C:\Documents and Settings\Chuck\My Documents\pocket pc software\file7.zip/Run_it_xxx.exe/stream/data0006 ------> Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Zlob.aky
C:\Documents and Settings\Chuck\My Documents\pocket pc software\file7.zip/Run_it_xxx.exe/stream ------> Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Zlob.aky
C:\Documents and Settings\Chuck\My Documents\pocket pc software\file7.zip/Run_it_xxx.exe ------> Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Zlob.aky
C:\Documents and Settings\Chuck\My Documents\pocket pc software\file7.zip ZIP: infected - 3

C:\RECYCLER\ <<< after you delete the above junk, then empty your Recycle Bin on the Desktop, junk in there also.
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/windows_waste_empty_bskt.mspx?mfr=true

When that is done, restart your computer and clean your System Restore files like this:

MANUAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR SYSTEM RESTORE
Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot

Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

If you followed directions, the next Kaspersky scan will be clean, I do not need to see a clean scan result.

Happy Holidays:santa:
