Hey Guys - been reading what I can but likes like each instance is a little different so I'll post mine as well. I've been getting bombed with ads so I ran SpyBot S&D and it found these and I fixed them. Rebooted and it started over. I ran Kaspersky online scanner which found problems so I have that log if needed. Ran SB in safe mode and then rebooted and still have some probs. I'll post the HJT log here and include a ComboFix log in the next post. Thanks in advance for the help!!

Thanks for your reply and Happy Holidays!!

I believe I have removed any virus/threat from my PC at this time but would appreciate a quick glance at my HJT log (run as renamed smiley21.exe)

Steps peformed:

1) Removed current AV suite as it showed compromised application files.
2) Installed AVG7.5FreeEdition with updates
3) Updated Java
4) Run Combofix /u and removed qoobox/ etc.
5) Installed SUPERAntispyware w/updates

Last AVG / Kaspersky scans showed clean but would appreciate the look at my HJT scan for markers and general housekeeping.

Thanks again and keep up the GREAT work!!
Happy Holidays!!

Hi Mike, I am not seeing any malware, but I do see this:

You are running two antivirus programs at the same time and this is not a good thing. They conflict with each other and you will be less safe than if you ran one good program and maintained it properly. Uninstall one, update the one you keep and run a complete system scan, post for me any item that can't be removed, the complete name and pathway.

C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\

Looks like you intend to run AVG so uninstall Symantec leftovers. This tool may help:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039?Open&src=&docid=2001092114452606&nsf=nav.nsf&view=docid&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=

This used to be the case if you used the tool:
WARNING: If you'll use the tool above, you will also lose Norton Ghost.
but from what I see they may have fixed that, just be aware as you proceed.

SUPERAntispyware <<< if this is a trial, you would want to remove it once the trail period is past.

Thanks for the reply and checking over my HJT log.

As to the two AV programs - I believe the only Symantec I have running is Norton Ghost which was a trial and has expired - will remove it and any other trace of Symantec products just to be sure.

I do plan to stay with AVG and will watch as to the expiration on SUPERAntispyware - didn't notice it when I downloaded the free edition but will research.

THANKS for your help and useful info!!:bigthumb:

Take care and Happy Holidays!!
