C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
For your information, Viewpoint is installed by aol probably without your knowledge. I suggest you uninstall this resource waster in Add Remove programs.

Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

FYI I do not have AOL on this pc, here is the report you asked for.

See this infomation, if you had aol or not, the programs are installed on your computer. Do whatever you wish with that information.
http://www.theconservativevoice.com/article/12852.html
You have a Smitfraud infection (and others), we will remove it first. You also have this:
»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» hosts
hosts file corrupted !
In the next C:\rapport.txt the new hosts file will be very large and I do not need to see it. Edit it out of the report before you post it and mention you did this to remind me.
http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< tutorial if needed
Clean:
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Optional:
To restore Trusted and Restricted site zone, select 3 and hit Enter.
You will be prompted: Restore Trusted Zone ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to delete trusted zone.
Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.
Post the C:\rapport.txt and a new HJT log.
Thanks
Hello, here is the rapport.txt that you requested. I have followed your instuctions and removed the host section. Also here is the HJT log you requested. I cannot find AOL in my programs folder to remove it, maybe after we fix the problem you can help me find and remove it without taking the files it shares that my laptop needs for other programs.

Viewpoint Removal Instructions and Help
http://www.pchell.com/support/viewpoint.shtml
Thanks for returning the information, let's see if HJT will remove the rest for us.
1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.
2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.
3) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
4) We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
Open Windows Defender, Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.
5) Start > Control Panel > Add Remove programs and uninstall QdrModule and Insider if there.
6) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [QdrPack9] "C:\Program Files\QdrPack\QdrPack9.exe"
Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"
7) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:
C:\Program Files\QdrModule\ <<< delete that folder
C:\Program Files\Insider\ <<< delete that folder
C:\Documents and Settings\Robert Zehler\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\suajpb.exe <<< delete that file
C:\Documents and Settings\Robert Zehler\Application Data\WinTouch\ <<< delete that folder
8) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
Restart and post a new HJT log and some feedback.
Thanks
Hello,

I followed your instructions line by line completing your request. upon completion of your request i opened my internet explorer browser to find that it wouldnt work and the message that follows in a pop up...The instruction at "0x7470b439" referenced memory at "0x7470b439" The memory could not be "Read"... I am unsure what happened. I printed the post you left to mark off your instructions as I completed them and to make sure that I didnt miss a step or the order that you wanted the items completed. Also I enabled the windows defender like you requested. wasnt sure what to do with the TeaTimer at this time so it is still disabled til further instructions. Thanks again

If you read the instructions, you will see I "suggested" removal of Viewpoint and gave you documentation to help you decide. This is an optional removal most folks choose to make, expecially after reading about Viewpoint and findng out they did not choose to have it and most did not even know it happened. I also gave you instructions for removing it:
suggest you uninstall this resource waster in Add Remove programs. Then I posted detailed information for the removal:
Viewpoint Removal Instructions and Help

As far as malware goes, this is a clean HJT log:
Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 10:52:04 AM, on 22/12/07
Remove Smitfraudfix from your computer.
Kaspersky report: Monday, December 17, 2007 10:13:06 PM
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery\ <<< delete the contents of that Recovery folder
http://ict.cas.psu.edu/training/howto/util/removespybot.htm#1
System Restore still needs to be cleaned, so we will have some infected files, but let's see what else. Please use these settings.
Run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner
You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.
Then post it here.
Thanks
I am sorry for the multiple post guess I should have gathered my notes before posting. FYI I also have a progam in the add/remove program list called ''Internet Speed Monitor" i didnt see it listed in the HJT report thought you may like to know.

2007-12-23, 02:40
Thanks for that feedback, TeaTimer will not interfere with Kaspersky, you can enabled it when ever you wish.
Internet Speed Monitor <<< piece of junk, why don't you give me a look at your uninstall list, I'll see if anything else needs to go and you can uninstall them all at once.
Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.
(You may edit out Microsoft, Hotfixes, Security Update for Windows XP, Update for Windows XP and Windows XP Hotfix to shorten the list)
Thanks
Ok to get you up to speed: I removed Viewpoint, removed the old Kaspersky report, erased the contents of spy-bot recovery folder, and updated to IE7 . I am sure there are a few things that could have been removed from the HJT report to shorten it more but wasnt listed specifically. Here are the 2 reports requested:

Thanks much for returning your information and the feedback, you said:
I am sure there are a few things that could have been removed from the HJT report to shorten it more but wasnt listed specificallyYou would have to mention those, I am removing malware only. I will post information about how to use System Configuration Utility (MSConfig) to save resources in the closing information.
HJT report for unistall:
Internet Speed Monitor: I am not sure what this is? See the Google:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Internet+Speed+Monitor&btnG=Google+Search
I suggest you talk to the technical support folkds at your ISP and ask if you should be running tat program.
My guess is that it is junk but I am want to be sure. An option would be to just uninstall it.

I am unsure if you seen the post I posted after the the two reports that you had asked for. I think my machine is reinfected and it happened when I turned the tea timer back on.

TeaTimer disabled
Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.
Download ComboFix from Here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) or Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop
Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall
Post the combofix log and a new HJT log.
Thanks

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"
Run ATF Cleaner
Looks like combofix got it all, let me have some feedback.
Thanks
before I close this browser window to complete your requests should I allow the change to the registry that McAfee picked up on?

2007-12-23, 23:24
Since you did not mention what the change is and considering I do not use McAfee, you will have to make that call yourself. If you are not sure about something, deny the change. Write down the information and Google it so you will know the next time.
I listed it in my last post before the HJT report. It was 2 posts to list your requested reports.
Ok I have completed your requsts as per your last post. The Tea timer is still disabled. My folders are still unhidden. I think with your help I have gotten rid of all the infections. Is there a better anti virus that I should be using other than Mcafee? I am open to all of your suggestions to help keep this from happening again.

I have a lot of folks I am working with, post the information again along with your question.

Here are tutorials that might help, but 1.5 is available.
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd15/index.html
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdKqwN61BJY
http://spyware-free.us/tutorials/spybot/
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial43.html
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/tutorial/index.html
My folders are still unhidden <<< I keep mine that way all of the time. If there is anyone in the house who might fool with the protected windows files, you should rehide them.
I suggest only freeware products. Read the links from experts for some great advice.

Ok I updated my jave to java6 update3, removed all the old versions. I also cleaned my restore points per your instructions from an earlier post. Do I need to keep HJT and combofix on my laptop? I also have the Tea Timer for spybot diasabled still. Is it safe to turn it back on? I am afraid cause the last time it reinfected my machine. Also I wanted to take the time to give you a from the heart Thank You. What you volunteers do is wonderful and I will definatly be donating to the site. Is there anything else that I should do?

You can delete combofix and the C:\qoofix\quarantine\ folder. I suggest you keep HJT and update it when available. Some infections block that download and it is handy to have onboard, and uses no resouces. Here is a tutorial showing what HJT can do.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial42.html
You may activate TeaTimer, keep in mind it did NOT infect you, just showed you the infections were trying to make unauthorized changes. You really need to review the tutorials so you understand Spybot S&D and TeaTimer if you are going to use the tools.
Thanks
Ok question I reactivated the Tea Timer as the pop ups came i denied the change. did the HJT everything we removed was back on there. I used combofix to remove it like we did before. Am I doing something wrong?

To tell you the truth, I really don't know what you are doing. Post a new HJT log. TeaTimer may be saying the stuff in memory and we may have to uninstall Spybot?
Ok I tried this. I allowed the changes and found that only the 2 BHO files appeared.
here is the HJT report:

So you understand, TeaTimer keeps the junk we need to remove in its memory. At times we have to uninstall Spybot S&D completely, remove the junk and then reinstall Spybot. We will try another method before we go to that extreme.
1) Disable TeaTimer for you enabled it.
2) Disable Windows Defender.
3) In some cases it's sometimes quite usefull to reset TeaTimer, once you've had it disabled to remove HijackThis entries :
Download ResetTeaTimer.bat here >>> http://downloads.subratam.org/ResetTeaTimer.bat
Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat to remove all entries set by TeaTimer (and preventing TeaTimer to restore them upon reactivation).
4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"
Run ATF-Cleaner
check the next log, if all is well there is no need to post.
Thanks...Phil
