Hey i have been having real problems trying to get rid of this spyware off my pc. My background has been hijacked and its yellow with active links to download AdwarePunisher and i keep getting pop up notices on the bottom right of my screen :mad: . oh something i think maybe usefull to the experts here is that this is on the familys main profile of the computer, the other user account still has the same problem, do i need to send in hijackthis logs for both user accounts?

hi berniecp,

first go out and check for updates to ewido and spybot and your antivirus.
dont scan with them yet. we will do that in safe mode after using hjt. also make sure all files show:

FOr XP: on the desktop double click my computer,go to tools>folder options>view> then select "show hidden files and folders", then UNcheck "hide protected operating system files " also UNcheck "hide extensions for known file types" click apply to all folders, apply then ok

before using hjt, please disable any protection you have running for example:
Ewido Security Suite (EwidoGuard)

Launch Ewido and in the main window click "Realtime protection" (in green indicating "Active") to change to inactive.

now run hjt;

scan with HJT, put a checkmark beside the items below, close all windows and click fix checked.

now reboot computer in to safe mode, you reach safe mode by tapping the f8 key during restart. chose the first option, safe mode. i would copy the rest of this and save it to notepad, so you can read it in safe mode.
ok once in safe mode see if you can find and delete just these two files:

shell386.exe>> located here>>C:\WINDOWS\system32
winapi32.dll>>same dir as above

run ewido in safe mode:
Click on scanner
Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
Save the report to your desktop

Close Ewido

run spybot in safe mode

also in safe mode do this:
Click Start>Run then type %temp%
Hit OK. Delete all the files you can.

Empty your Temp folders. Go to Start > Run and type:cleanmgr. Windows will scan. When done check these 3 and press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin
