Mystery popups. Please help.

I've been given a computer by a friend to clean out following a severe virus/adware/spyware infection. I've used AVG and Trend Micro Housecall to clean out the virus'. I've used Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S&D for the adware/spyware. I now get clean scans on all three both in safe mode and regular mode. I've manually gone over all startup programs to make sure they can be identified as legit. I've diabled or removed virtually all non-essential plugins from IE except Google Toolbar and AOL. I don't see much of anything else out of place but yet this computer is still plagued with popups whenever you do much of anything with IE. What did I miss?

One more thing I forgot, I also ran Virtumundobegone.exe since some of the ads popping up are advertising Winfixer but it found nothing.

Just as mysteriously as it started. An entry suddenly appeared in the Run key of the registry that started a program called Dumprep.exe. This file was not in the Hijackthis log and I'm sure I didn't see it there before. When I disabled that startup item the popups went away! Everything is good now. I have no idea how that program suddenly appeared in the startup group when it definitely wasn't there before but things seem to be OK now.

:confused: Scratch that. That file may actually be legit. Unless it was a corrupt version. Well in any case the popups stopped so whatever did it this problem seems to be solved.
