Hi all, this is my first post here. I have been checking in here and there and getting some good ideas as to what is going on. So, I have decided to post my HJT log here. I know I have a TON of things that are running in the background, but I do not know how to get them removed. I manually go in a discontinue their services, but the next time I start my computer, they start back up. How can I free up more memory on my computer and get rid of some of these autodialers and other spyware things that are on there. It seems to me that spybot finds them, but does not do anything about them (it seems to skip over them as if they are not a threat, is this possible?). Anyways, here is my log. Thanks a bunch!

Ok, that seems better. I think that I could probably get rid of some more things, but I am not sure of all of these processes that are running in the background. And one other thing. When I run spybot S&D, at the bottom where it shows the progress while it is running, it flashes a bunch of different items that it is 'checking'(?), or 'looking for'(?). I am not sure if these are things 'on my computer', or is it something that it is 'looking for'. There are too many too list, but there are a bunch of dialers. Ones that stick out in my head are RASdialer and Tangodialer. It finds them all the time, but does nothing to eliminate them. Is this right? I guess that I am not sure as to what the process is doing, could someone explain please. Thanks! Oh, and here is my log AFTER I did the HJT program again. Thanks again!!

Your log is clean.

You should remember that dialers aren't all bad.
You need at least one to get on the internet.

We can have a look if there are any suspicious files.

Download WinPFind.zip (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/oldtimer/WinPFind.zip) and unzip the contents to the C:\ folder.

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
Restart the computer.
As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
Press the Enter key.
Locate the c:\winpfind\winpfind.exe file and double-click it to run it. Now click the Start Scan button to begin the scan.

When the scan is complete reboot normally and post the WinPFind.txt file (located in the WinPFind folder)

ok, here is the other log you asked for. I don't know how you guys do this, but thank God you do. Thanks again for your time and professionalism!

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

Hi Driver,

Nothing wrong in there either.

Have you tried an online virusscan.
This one is supposedly very thorough:
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

If that doesn't render any suspicious files, I think it's safe to say, you're clean.

Pieter, Thank you very much. I have Norton antivirus but I was thinking of trying trend micro out. I hear that Norton is a HUGE utilities hog and that may be part of the sluggishesness I have been seeing. I thought that maybe if I dump Norton and pick up Trend Micro in its place, then maybe I will see a difference there too. Your thoughts...........

Thanks again,
Tim

My personal opinion. If you want an AV that is low on resources and offers good protection: http://www.eset.com/home/home.htm

Pieter, May I ask you, what/why do you think that one is better? I thought that they were all about the same, maybe a few more options on this one or that one, but other than that, just about the same. Don't be too hard on me, I don't know alot about this stuff, but am quickly learning. Thanks again, Tim

Hi Tim,

Like I said, it's my personal preference. And, after having tried many, there are only two I really like.

Kaspersky, because their speed of adding the new ones is super, but their engine used to be very slow. (Not sure about the latest, which is supposedly better)

NOD32, because your computer will hardly notice it's there and they use good heuristics. (That is a method of identifying files by behavior rather then by signature)

There are very big differences in programs, targets, customer support and options. You'll see. :)

Pieter, WOW! I downloaded the NOD32 this weekend and gave it the 'trial spin', and what a difference! Of course, it prompted me to uninstall Norton, and I must say that I was a little hesitant to doing that, but when I did, and installed NOD32, it was awesome. It ran smoothly, found about a dozen things that Norton missed and the best part----------->When I went to check out my windows task manager, it got rid of about 8-10 background programs. It freed up SOOOOOOOOOO much space on my machine! So, in conclusion, with your help my machine is running much smoother than it has been in a long time. I knew that people had said that Norton was a huge utilities hog, but I could not believe it until I saw it. I am definately impressed! Thank you soooo much Pieter! :bigthumb: :beerbeerb
