Hello all... just needn some simple info..
I received an old free windows 98se pc (Compaq-500MHZ)
I installed the latest spybot,
and I noticed in the start up tools, it reads:
---------------------------------------------------
System.ini (C:\windows\system.ini) Shell explorer.exe
---------------------------------------------------
and the start up info says it's the badsector trojan.
* BUT, It will NOT allow me to uncheck that in spybot at all. That kinda raised the red flag for me..lol
However I can uncheck anything else....
I installed avg free with 12-16-07 updates,
Considering this was an old pc and probably an old trojan,
I figured those anti-virus definitions would get rid of it.
but it did not find didly. perhapse I should download the manual updates for that and try again?
* So my question is.. should I just run hijackthis and remove it from the startup, or would it come back?
Never seen anything that I couldn't uncheck in spybot..
* Although this pc will Not get online.
This is only for the parents to play slot machines on.
and no.. not real slot machines....lol
Other than that, you'd never know there was anything wrong with the pc...
Spybot only found 3 things and removed them, but that was not one of them. I believe it was the first pc that Ive seen with the least amount of junk on it...
dssexploit...nothing really..
alexea related... nothing but a html page.
cydoor - removed it...several entries.
and a handfull of the usuall cookies...
Thanks for any info on that....
