View Full Version : Spybot problem
I seem to have picked up some sort of virus or malware that won't let Spybot run properly. Also, my computer and/or various programs are not responding properly. Spybot will begin running then slows down to a crawl. It took several hours to run a complete bot check. I've downloaded and installed the latest version, and I've run a Norton scan, but nothing is detected. Everything was fine until a couple of days ago. Is there some other way to scan my system? Thanks for the help.
Hello.
Please read the sticky topic here and follow instructions.
Before you post a log (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)
Regards.
I ran Norton and it detected nothiing, I can't run Spybot, I ran McAfee free scan and it detected the following:
C:\Documents and Settings\...uninstall.exe AdClicker-BA
C:\System Volume Information\...A0102194.exe W32/Leox.worm.gen
C:\\WINNT\Downloaded Program Files\turbo.inf Adware-abetterintrnt.inf
C:\\WINNT\Downloaded Program Files\WUInst.inf Adware-SaveNow
C:\\WINNT\host.ini Generic Adware.txt
C:\\WINNT\LastGood\host.ini Generic Adware.txt
C:\\WINNT\system32\comdos.exe Generic Downloader.k
But it didn't tell me how to find and get rid of these.
Here is the HJT log

Run Blacklite scan then select each file one at a time and choose rename
except for wbmtest, thats a windows file. let blacklite restart the pc
zip up and send these files to me please, one or two i dont yet have
Send to submitlonny AT subratam.org
Replace AT and spaces with @ and include a link back to this thread.
C:\WINNT\system32\dmrqv.exe.ren
C:\WINNT\system32\encodex.exe.ren
C:\WINNT\system32\favset.exe.ren
C:\WINNT\system32\pppcgm.exe.ren
C:\WINNT\system32\howiper.exe.ren
C:\WINNT\system32\csukn.exe.ren
C:\WINNT\system32\sphlp32.exe.ren
C:\WINNT\system32\filesafer23.exe.ren
Then delete the originals. also delete >
C:\\WINNT\host.ini
C:\\WINNT\LastGood\host.ini
C:\\WINNT\system32\comdos.exe
You will need to Set windows to show hidden extensions file's and folder's. click for> instructions<. (http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html)
Post a new hijackthis log
I ran the Blacklite scan and renamed the files as you suggested, but I'm not sure where to find the originals to copy and send, and then delete. I did delete the three additional items you suggested, and here's the new HJT log

Hi
To find those files open an explorer (folder) and simply navigate to those locations, windows has to be set to show hidden files/folders and extensions.
You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.
Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/Fixwareout.exe
Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, HijackThis will launch. Please click Scan, and check the following items:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = localhost
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {78786537-492B-47D0-9AD3-604272A94669} - Uint32.dll (file missing)

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [borlandg] install2.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [forces_elite] ExchangeMaster.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [sysconf16] lpt.exe
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{7B1202FB-5F10-404C-AF48-04DAE894556A}: NameServer = 85.255.116.158,85.255.112.181
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{AB51FC7C-38E5-474F-8870-17B339191D6F}: NameServer = 85.255.116.158,85.255.112.181
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{BC86E976-E49F-4FF7-9A08-92E85F46788A}: NameServer = 85.255.116.158,85.255.112.181

===============================
Click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis, and click OK to proceed.
=========
Put in place a good hosts file
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
How To Download and Extract the HOSTS file:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts2.htm
How did that go ?
Replace it about once monthly to keep it updated
=========
Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt, along with a new HijackThis log.
Note: If You have connection problems or those 017's ~ 85.255.113.138,85.255.112.79, return >
Before doing this write down all the settings, Note that not all system/setups even have these settings, While some connection service's will require them.
In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on [B]Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be avaiable one some systems
Here are the report and log. I'm still unable to find the original files you requested. I thought I did everything in sequence, so I renamed the files before copying them. They don't seem to be there under the original name even with the hidden files revealed.
