I can't get rid of the subject problems even though Spybot SE says they are removed. They just keep coming back. Smitfraud-C comes back right away. The other two come back a little while later. I see from the forum that you are aware of the problem. I hope you already have an answer for mine. I've put up with this nonsense for a week now.

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Thanks for the reply. I have read the "BEFORE YOU POST".
I am still infected, but have deleted all files in C:\Documents and Settings\Allen Earnest\Local Settings\Temp\ while in SAFE MODE since my last post. There were a lot of files and folders in there including cnsqtkrwxr.exe that was identified in the previous logs as a trojan.

Hello Allen thanks for returning your information. I saw this item cnsqtkrwxr.exe in the Kaspersky scan and you did OK deleting your Temp files. Smitfraudfix found the infection, let's see if it gets it all.

Clean:
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Optional:
To restore Trusted and Restricted site zone, select 3 and hit Enter.
You will be prompted: Restore Trusted Zone ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to delete trusted zone.
Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

Post the C:\rapport.txt and a new HJT log. Let me know how the computer is running.

I think we have more work to do. I did a scan with Spybot and it found Smitfraud-C.MSVPS and Zlob.Downloader.vcd. I tried to get back on-line to tell you what it had found, but I couldn't get anywhere I wanted to go due to being redirected.
I then ran HJT and then ran the FIX on Spybot so I could post my results. What's next?

Thanks much for the feedback, I knew there would be more to do, I suspected the Smitfraud infection and have found it is best to clean it first. Read and follow the directions carefully.

Thanks to andymanchesta and anyone else who helped with the fix.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop
http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
Choose your usual account.
Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

Were you trying to do something with Windows Installer?

Let's run Kaspersky to make sure nothing is left, please use these setting and do not post the results from a clean scan.
Remove Smitfraudfix and SDFix from your computer before you scan, do not keep either program, they do not update and must be downloaded new if ever needed.

Get the most recent updates
* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

First, let me say a HUGE THANK YOU!

The latest Kaspersky scan was clean. My system doesn't seem like it has any more problems (knock on wood).

Concerning the msiexec.exe items you asked about, I haven't been trying to do anything special with Windows Installer, but I may have allowed it to install if I was downloading some software and it said it needed it.

I have one other issue I'd like you to address that showed up in the latest Kaspersky scan. There was a locked item in an area that doesn't make sense. I also noticed it when I was deleting files and folders from the user temp areas. Following is the line:

C:\Documents and Settings\Elesa Earnest\Local Settings\Temp\AntiPhishing\4D122E84-F372-4351-A5AA-5688EF0485AC.dat Object is locked skipped

Again, thanks for your help and I would appreciate any recommendations that you would have to make my system more secure. This is the first time I've had a virus of any kind and it wasn't pleasant. It especially bothers me that Norton never even acknowledged that there was a problem.
