View Full Version : Spybot now takes 30 seconds to load

I had some problems with the installed version (would not stay set in Advanced mode, etc.), so I uninstalled through the Control Panel and downloaded a new version, which is more current than what I had installed. This did not work properly, so I did another uninstall/download cycle.

Now Spybot literally takes 30 seconds to load from the desktop. I am using Vista Home Premium.

I'm wondering what I can do about it. Is it possible the uninstalls were not complete and left some Registry keys behind or something that are interfering with the operation of the program?

Is it possible that other antimalware is detecting the newer Spybot and delaying loading? That doesn't seem likely.

By the way, the time to load is the same whether I double click on the desktop icon, or right click to Run as Administrator.

Thanks.

There were many reports of Spybot 1.5.1.15 itself starting slowly and consuming a lot of CPU time. The problem has been found and fixed. See the following tracking task (which includes a link for a fix to the problem):

In addition there are another beta versions of Spybot 1.5 that solve the slow start as well as other known problems that have been encountered since the original release of Spybot 1.5. The latest is:

The latest version of Spybot is no longer the one I listed above. See:
1.5.2 Release Candidate 1 (aka 1.5.1.19) here

Thanks for your posts on this issue.

After reading through them, I think for the moment I will just sit tight and put up with the 30 second load time for now.
