Having installed SpyBot on my wife's computer, her computer had problems since this moment.

The problem was that she was able to surf, but after around 15 minutes, surfing didn't work anymore.

Today, I checked her computer and realized that Google Desktop was conflicting with the hosts file.

Indeed, Spybot tends to add a LOT of entries in the host file, and all these entries point to 127.0.0.1.
The sites she browsed tend to do a lot of requests on 127.0.0.1, and this seems to overflow the TCP/IP of her Windows XP.

The solution I applied is simply to remove all the HOSTS entries added by Spybot, and now, it's very fast, and doesn't crash anymore.

I hope this will help somebody else.

yes, this is especially true to people who already have large host files :clown:
