View Full Version : As Intended: False Positive for WinClear?

First of all: Hi I'm new here.:greeting:

Second: (hopefully I'm not posting this in the wrong place)
I just updated my Spybot to 1.5 (I was running 1.4 until my ISP changed its online protection package to Norton).

Anyway, my question is:

Just ran S&D and a positive came up for WinClear that has never come up before. I came here to check it out and saw that WinClear has been classified as MalWare. I've had WinClear on my system for about a year and use it to clean out junk files.

Is WinClear something I really don't want on my computer or could it be a false positive?

Thanks

Winclear has been added to our definition file in December 2007. The software belongs to Marketflip Technologies like other well known rogue antispyware software e.g. NoAdware or Spyware Solver. As Marketflip Technologies is not to be trusted I would not keep this software on my PC.

First of all, thanks for the reply.

Hmmmm. So WinClear is suspect due to it's association with a dubious source.
I did some poking around on the net yesterday to see if I could find anything on WinClear that might indicate it as Malware but couldn't find anything.
I'll look into this Marketflip Technologies and see what I can find out. But thanks for the tip. :bigthumb:

After doing some looking around with the info you provided, I made the decision to remove WinClear from my system. Not so sure I trust it anymore.
Any suggestions as to an available reputable software which does what WinClear claims to do? Freeware preferably.

I suppose what attracted me to WinClear was the ease of being able to go to one place on my computer to scan my drive and get rid of all the junk files with a click of a button. Since the computer I had it on is the 'family work horse', so to say, I try to take extraordinary measures to protect our data.

Thanks again for the info.:bigthumb:

Winclear is an internet history eraser just like Evidence Eliminator. You can check a blog I made about it at Winclear.
