hi,

Download combofix from one of these links and save it to Desktop:

http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

as a precaution, before using combofix:
Close any open windows
Close/disable anti virus and any antimalware programs that might have real time protection running.Usually this can be done by clicking on the icons by the clock and selecting exit etc. This is done to prevent any possible interference while Combofix is running. After combofix is done you can restart them.

Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

hi,

ok thanks. another download to run:

download and run vundofix.exe:

http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4

* Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
* Click the Scan for Vundo button.
* Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
* You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
* Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
* When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
* Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Hi shelf life
I ran the VundoFix and it came back with "no infected files". Do you still want a new HJT log?

I do believe I made a mistake. I have virus files?? in my Spybot S&D Recovery. I had not purged or recovered these files. They are:

Smitfraud-C
Win32.Small.azl
Virtumonde
Virtmonde.ddc
Virtumonde.dll
Virtumonde.generic

Do I need to recover or purge these files and rerun Spybot to see if they reappear. Please advise--sorry for this oversite.

Hi shelf life

Just wondering if you work Saturdays. I keep checking the posts but nothing since late yesterday (Friday).

Sorry, just anxious to clear up this computer.

hi,

Just wondering if you work Saturdays

I do.

hold off on spybot for now. another download to get and run:
Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.exe

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe

Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with a new hjt log in next reply.

hi,

ok smitfraud log looks ok. lets go back to the combofix log.

first disable spybots tea timer and avg guard if icon is present by the clock. just in case they dont allow these registry changes we are making:

Copy the entire contents inside the code box and Paste it into Notepad ( this will only work with Notepad ) name the file Regfix.reg and in the drop down box, save it as All Files. Save it to your desktop. Then Rightclick on the Regfix.reg file and click on Merge, when it asks you to merge with the Registry, say yes.

looks like your p2p client Morpheus starts at boot up? if so you should disable it not to start everytime with windows but only when you are actually using it. you should know there is alos plenty of malware that is distributed via p2p networks.

after the above, reboot once and post a new hjt log.

Hi shelf life

It took me a while and I followedall the steps, but looks like the ones you wanted me to delete, are still in the new hjt log. Did I do something wrong? Also, I do not know what or where Morpheus is??
On reboot, the Rundll message comes up with the wocgagds.dll in it.

Help with next step. Here is log

hi,

thanks for the info. i missed something in the hjt log.
we will use combo fix first to make a script file to run:

dont forget, before using combofix:
as a precaution, before using combofix:
Close any open windows
Close/disable anti virus and any antimalware programs that might have real time protection running.Usually this can be done by clicking on the icons by the clock and selecting exit etc. This is done to prevent any possible interference while Combofix is running. After combofix is done you can restart them.
------------------------
Click Start, then Run and type Notepad and click OK.
Open notepad
Copy/paste the text in the code box below into notepad:

FILE::
C:\WINDOWS\BM4132d974.xml
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dgwupqpp.ini
C:\WINDOWS\pskt.ini
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vumnnjkp.ini
C:\WINDOWS\system32\chuonfdv.ini

REGISTRY::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon\notify\awturpo]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"BM4132d974"=-

Name the Notepad file CFScript.txt and Save it to your desktop.

now locate both the CFScript you saved and the combofix icon. both on your desktop.
using your mouse button drag the CFScript right on top of the combofix icon and release. combofix will run. combofix will rerun and may reboot your computer, please post the new combofix log and a new hjt log.

hi,

sometimes combofix dosnt have to reboot in order to remove something. i always like a new hjt log after a reboot but thats ok.
looking good. before using hjt disable spybots tea timer just in case it complains about hjt making changes. also avg guard if running.

start HJT, click the "Scan" button. check the items below, if present-- close any open windows, then click "Fixed checked"

hi,

seems that 04 .dll is back:

[BM4132d974] Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\wocgagds.dll

lets uninstall combofix and get a new copy as it is updated alot;you can uninstall it like this:

start>run and type in combofix /u
there is a space after the "x" and before the /

before getting the copy lets do a online scan also here:
ESET online scanner:

http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/

uses Internet Explorer only
check "YES" to accept terms
click start button
allow the ActiveX component to install
click the start button. the Scanner will update.
Do Not check the box Remove found threats (thats so we can see what it finds)
click scan
when done you can find the scan log at:C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
please copy/paste that log in next reply.

next get and run the another copy of combofix

http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
post the online scan and the combofix log please.

In addition to this scan, My AVG antivirus had scanned earlier today and revealed:
SmiUpdate.exe, Trojan horse VB.CEC(2)
SmitFraudFix.exe, Trojan house VB.CEC
whichwere sent to Virus Vault automatically

I also still have Virtumonde (several) as referenced in post #5which are in the Recovery area of Spybot.

Hope this is going to help as I am trying to fix this for my collegefriend who has to have her computer back by tomorrow. If you cannot finish me up, is there someone else that possibly be able to help by tomorrow morning?

Thank you David, for your help so far. I have learned so much but still a long way to go

hi,
oh well try a online scan here instead:
Please run an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner:

http://www.kaspersky.com/downloads/kws/kavwebscan.html

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, click Yes.

* The program will launch and start to download the latest definition files.
* Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
* Now click on Scan Settings and select the following:

Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:

* Extended (If available, otherwise Standard)

Scan Options:

* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases

* Click OK.
* Under "select a target to scan", select My Computer.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. As it scans your machine very deeply it could take hours to complete, Kaspersky suggests running it during a time of low activity.

Once the scan is complete:

* Click on the Save as Text button.
* Save the file to your desktop.
* Copy and paste that information into your next post if the AV content will fit into one post only.
* If the results of the anti virus scan itself will take more than one post to contain, it is best not to post it. Just make a note for our volunteers so they are aware, as it would be best to start off with no more than two posts (total) in your topic before a helper responds.

please post the scan report back in the thread we have going. hows your computer running now? better?we are making progress

hi,

ok good it worked. that 04 item is gone.
log looks good.
i think those items in spybots recovery section are backups its made. they can be purged.
you can delete combofix again (combofix /u)like before.
last: make a new restore point. the how and why:

One of the features of Windows ME or XP is the System Restore option, however if a malware infects a computer with this operating system it can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is agood idea after malware is removed.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(winXP)

1. Turn off System Restore. (deletes old possibly infected restore point)
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.(new restore points on a clean system)
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK, then reboot

happy safe surfing out there.

Thanks, I will try all the things you have listed. Do I purge the Spybot Recovery before I do all these things.

If I still have problems after this, what are my options??

Thank you so much.
