I've got something on my computer that Spybot detects, but it can't remove. I've tried Ad-Aware and Symantec too, and neither can get rid of it. I know it's causing pop-ups whenever I use the internet, but I'm worried about what else it's doing that I don't know about.

Here's my HJT log. I have the Kaspersky scan results as well, but they're really long. So, if necessary, I can post that as well. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Hello Jamal
Welcome to Safer Networking.

Please read Before You Post (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)
All advice given by anyone volunteering here, is taken at own risk.
While best efforts are made to assist in removing infections safely, unexpected stuff can happen

Not looking at any bad entries in your HJT log , not to say something is hiding and not showing up

Please download ATF Cleaner (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1) by Atribune to your desktop.

This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up

Thank You Atribune

Now rerun Kaspersky and post the new Kaspersky log pleasel

Kaspersky

Now run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from Kaspersky Online Virus Scanner (http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/english/kavwebscan.html)

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
Now click on Scan Settings
In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
Standard
Scan Options:
Scan Archives
Scan Mail Bases
Click OK
Now under select a target to scan: Select My Computer
This will program will start and scan your system.
The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
Now click on the Save as Text button:
Save the file to your desktop.
Post the log along with a New HJT Log into your next reply.

Jamal,

You have picked up some bad entries since your original post, I would strongly urge that outside of checking in at this forum that you stay off the internet until we give you the all clear.

Download ComboFix from Here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) or Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post the Combofix log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Hi,

Looks like we got quite a bit of it, a little more to do.

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows including this one, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - rsion - (no file)

Open Notepad and copy all the text inside the quote box by highlighting it all and pressing CTRL C on your keyboard, then paste it into Notepad, make sure there is no space before and above File::

Save this as CFScript to your desktop.

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/CFScript.gif

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

Your log looks good :bigthumb: FYI You where infected with the Vundo Trojan

I am not looking at any Anti Virus software on your system, in this day and age with all the threats going around this is kind of suicidal. Here are some free AV Programs, install just one, your call, more than one is overkill and will slow your system down.

AVG Free (http://free.grisoft.com/doc/avg-anti-virus-free/lng/us/tpl/v5)
Free Avast 4 Home Edition (http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html)
Avira AntiVirŪ Personal Edition Classic (http://www.free-av.com/)

A Firewall should also be installed

Zone Alarm (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,7228,00.asp) Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs

Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
It should have an icon next to it:
http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/javaicon.jpg
Select it and click Remove.
Reboot your system.
Then go to the Sun Microsystems (http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp) and install the update
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 4 <--This is what you need to download and install.
If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp)

How is your system running now??

Thats great Jamal :bigthumb:

How did I get infected in the first place ? Read these links and find out how to prevent getting infected again.

Dslreports (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10002)

If you install Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard, do not enable the Tea Timer in Spybot Search and Destroy or they will conflict.
Here are some free programs to install, don't leave home without them

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.5 (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/)
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.

Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html) It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.

Spyware Guard (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html) It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

Win Patrol (http://www.winpatrol.com/download.html) This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and give
you the option to deny the change.

IE-Spyad (http://forums.windowsforum.org/index.php?showtopic=6640)
IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads
(cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.

Firefox 2.0 (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and
painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.

Zone Alarm (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,7228,00.asp) Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs,

Glad we could help.

Safe Surfn
