Can't get rid of Trojan Horse PSW...Help Please.

Hi, I am a complete novice at this so I will try to do it right.

AVG is identifying I have a Trojan Horse PSW. I have tried to heal it / put in the vault. But every time I restart the computer it reappears. Can you help please?

I tried to get Kaspersky to scan my system but for some reason it wont respond.Are you using Internet Explorer? What exactly happens when you try to scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner? Do not run and post the scan now untill I request it.

1) You are running two antivirus programs at the same time and this is not a good thing. They conflict with each other and you will be less safe than if you ran one good program and maintained it properly. Uninstall one, update the one you keep and run a complete system scan, post for me any item that can't be removed, the complete name and pathway.

2) AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield
- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

3) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave it disabled until we finish)

4) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

5) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune

Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

6) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7A06EEC1-9EF5-4ED9-8301-45C5BEFBAB27} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\cnvfa.dll

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

7) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\cnvfa.dll <<< make sure that file is gone

8) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart and post a new HJT log along with any information I requested and some feedback.

Thank you for helping. I have tried to follow your instructions as best as I can.
I am using Internet Explorer. When I tried to scan with Kaspersky it just failed to respond. (I tried several times).
I have unistalled Norton AntiVirus (I didnt renew subscription). I completed instructions 2 to 6 but when trying to carry out instruction 7 to delete C:\WINDOWS\system32\cnvfa.dll an 'Error Deleting File or Folder box' displays 'Cannot delete cnvfra: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and the file is not currently in use.

Re TrojanHunter 5.0 and AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 programs I dont own them they are time limited demos I tried to help get rid of the Trojan Horse.

Thanks for returning your information. You still have two antivirus programs running, Symantec it part of the Norton stuff you had onboard. Did you read the information about what problems can be caused as multiple antivirus programs run at the same time. I also see what looks like a Norton Firewall:
Norton AntiVirus Firewall Monitor Service and yet you tell me you do not have this service.

It is difficult for me to troubleshooting when I do not know what problems are being caused by these multiple programs. What you need to do is take a look at the HJT log and make sure you are running:
1 Antivirus Program
1 Firewall
1 (at least) spyware program running in real time.

We can use AVG Anti-Spyware to run in place of the Kaspersky so keep it for now, but clean out the rest and I suggest you also remove TrojanHunter 5.0. Beyond the trial it will do nothing but waste your resources running.

It appears the trojan you had an issue with is gone, take care of these other issues and post a new HJT log. Once we get to that point, we can talk about how the computer is performing. It is not a wonder if performance is bad just now with all of these issues.

Thanks for the help I think I am getting somewhere now. I have completely removed all Symantec/Norton programs. I downloaded a removal tool from Symantec which helped.

I have Windows Firewall, AVG7, and Spybot-S&D running. As requested I have cleaned out TrojanHunter 5.0 and kept AVG Anti Spyware. (AVG Anti Spyware is not currently switch to active.) I have also so removed adware programs.

The Trojan has not been detected by AVG7 today, so like you I think this has been removed. Thank You Thank You..

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback. Let me comment on what you said first. I am not sure why Kaspersky is failing, we use it as part of our "Before you Post" instructions. What message do you get when you try to download it?
Security/Malware folks do not think the Windows Firewall is adequate protection:

I personally use free Zone Alarm and have for years, ZA uses some resources but I have links to other free ones if you wish.

I keep AVG Anti-Spyware on my computer also, but I turn it totally off, even the service and only start it when I want another good scan. I see nothing wrong with having the progam onboard as long as you have the space and do not let it run.

The Trojan has not been detected by AVG7 today, so like you I think this has been removed. Thank You Thank You..
If you ran AVG Antivirus and it is clean, give AVG AntiSpyware a run and let me know you there are any questions. Have it delete anything it locate, or at least quarantine.

I would consider at least one antispyware program that runs in realtime such as Windows Defender (free). Look at this information for ideas to enhance performance:

Thanks for the interesting information, I will be taking on board your suggestions and will be installing the various programs. I checked out Kaspersky and this is now working ok. Dont know what problem was before possibly me.
Ran AVG Antivirus and AVG AntiSpyware today no problems found except HijackThis backup had saved Trojan Horse which I have deleted. I have updated Sun.Java. Everything seems fine now.
