View Full Version : Smitfraud-C.CoreService core on Windows Vista 32: unable to remove

Hello!
I use Windows vista, genuine, preinstalled, always updated, AVG antivirus, and Vista firewall.
I got infected by the Smitfraud-C.CoreService
The rootkit is related to core.cache.dsk in c:\windows\system32\drivers\
Spybot finds it but doesn't remove it. Unfortunately, i have no restore points.:oops:

Here is what i tried, always without success
- scan and clean with spybot, spyware doctor, bitdefender antivirus, avg antivirus, f-secure

blackilght, avg anti-rootkit, smitfraudfix,

-remove the core.cache.dsk file from windows safe mode, BartPE, Linux LIVE distro. (--> on restart, it comes back again). i also deleted any TEMP folder.

-starting in safe mode and scanning

I can't get rid of him. please help, because i can't format and i use this pc (a noteook) for work.


Some notes...
-if i start pc in "safe mode-command prompt", then delete core.cache.dsk, and restart in "safe mode-command prompt" again, the core.cache.dsk is no more in the \drivers directory. if i launch explorer.exe from task manager (still in safe mode) the file is not present, but if i restart my pc in mormal mode, the file appears again.

Hi

Remove old HijackThis thru add/remove programs and then get the latest one.

Download and install TrendMicro HijackThis (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/HJTInstall.exe)
* Once installed open HijackThis by clicking Start > Programs > HijackThis and click the button labeled
Do a system scan only

* Click the scan button in the lower left hand corner of the interface and HijackThis will quickly scan your system.
* Once the scan is complete the scan button will now read save log. Click this button to save the log file to your PC. Once you select where you would like to save the file it will open in your systems default text editor. Typically this application is Notepad. Post the log here.

Post also Spybot results in case it still finds something.
